CUE ace Rubilen Amit hopes to build on her golden double in the Vietnam Southeast Asian Games as she prepares for her debut in the 11th World Games scheduled July 7 to 18 in Birmingham, Alabama.
“Winning two golds in the Vietnam SEA Games is a nice thing to build on for my first World Games. But at the same time, I don’t like to pressure myself too much about the outcome. I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself,” Amit said yesterday.
“While I am excited. I won’t go there with any expectations whatsoever. I’ll just go there and perform and do the right shot every time and, hopefully, get the best result,” said the petite Cebuana, who swept the women’s 9-ball and 10-ball mints in Hanoi.
The two-time women’s world 10-ball champion will receive a total of P600,000 or P300,000 for each of the gold medals she garnered under Republic Act 10699, the incentives law.
This will be awarded during a reception hosted by President Duterte for the country’s medalists in the Vietnam Games in Malacanang this afternoon.
Amit, 40, said she would have other overseas competitions in-between and focus on her build-up for The World Games with the help of her coach, Francisco “Django” Bustamante.
She bared that she built a pool table inside her residence in Taguig in June 2021, which she used to prepare for the Vietnam joust, practising with national teammate Chezka Centeno.
Amit hopes to head for the US at least a week to 10 days before The World Games pool tournament to acclimatize.
“I am looking to go there at least a week early to adjust to the time in the US and also hope to spar with some players there before competing in The World Games” she said.
