Alas belles out to defy tall odds

THE Alas Pilipinas national women’s volleyball team is out to defy the odds when it sees action in the SEA V.League set to start tomorrow.

Philippine National Volleyball Federation national team commission chairperson Tony Boy Liao said Alas has arrived in Vietnam yesterday for the first Leg of the contest with a 16-woman lineup.

Ace setter Jia de Guzman will serve as the team captain anew for the Nationals while outside spikers Sisi Rondina and Eya Laure are also expected to unleash their offensive prowess.

Middle blockers Thea Gagate, Fifi Sharma, Dell Palomata and Cherry Nunag are will also be counted upon anew in the four-nation competition along with open spikers Vanie Gandler, Jema Galanza, Bella Belen, Faith Nisperos, setter Julia Coronel, opposite hitter Arah Panique and liberos Dawn Catindig and Jen Nierva.

Power hitter Alyssa Solomon, who bagged the Best Opposite Spiker plum in the second Leg of the SEA V.League last year, is also seen boosting the squad in the absence of Angel Canino.

Will Brazilian coach Jorge Souza de Brito calling the shot, is eyeing to end a two-year podium finish drought or since 2019 when the Philippines finished third.
