PROMISING age grouper Jamesray Mishael Ajido completed a sensational golden quadruple win, three of them in record-breaking time, in the recent first leg of the Philippine Swimming Inc. Long Course Grand Prix Series NCR qualifiers at the Rizal Memorial pool.
Ajido, 12, booked new national junior records in ruling the 11 to 13-year-old boys 100-meter butterfly, 200-meter individual medley and 100-meter backstroke events before capping his stint in style by topping the 50-meter freestyle.
The highlight of Ajido’s record-breaking drive was sinking the 20-year-old 200 IM mark of two minutes and 19.85 seconds of Michaelmars Danila, chopping nearly four seconds off the old record with his winning time of 2:15.87.
The Antipolo Gems Sea Scorpions Club ace also set new records in the 100 butterfly (58.82) and 100 backstroke (1:03.28), eclipsing the three-year-old marks set by Hugh Antonio Parto (1:00.80) and Ivo Nikolai Enot (1:03.75).
Ajido copped his fourth mint by handily winning the 50-meter freestyle in 26.98 seconds.
“Nagkarun ng growth spurt si Jamesray and with that growth mas lalo siyang bumilis sa pool,” noted coach ASGC Ramil Ilustre of the vast improvement of his swimmer.
“We would like to congratulate Jamesray for his record-breaking achievements. Discovering new talent is what the PSI Long Course Grand Prix Series is all about. We are here to strengthen our grassroots after virtually no competitions over two years during the pandemic,” PSI president Lani Velasco said.
“The PSI does not make a profit out of this meets but allows our young swimmers to showcase their swimming prowess,” she added of the competition where entries earn ranking points to qualify for the finals set in the last quarter of the year.
Mindanao and Visayas qualifiers for the PSI Long Course Grand Prix Series finals are also scheduled.
