EIGHT community-based teams from different regions around the country will see action in the inaugural Maharlika Pilipinas Volleyball Association set to get going this Sunday.

The MPVA will showcase homegrown talents from various regions which is spearheaded by boxing legend, tournament founder, chairman and former Senator Manny Pacquiao.

Teams from Bacoor, Binan, Caloocan, Marikina, Nasipit from Agusan del Norte, Negros Oriental, Rizal, and San Juan are out to show their true worth.

Teams are allowed to have former pro players in their line-up.

“Due to the limited time, hindi pa masyadong ready for preparation, they deferred from joining pero next season they will. Sure na iyon. I think more teams pa tayo next season,” tournament Commissioner Mike Tavera said in the league’s launch at the Club Filipino in San Juan.

“Kaya nga, these eight teams medyo saludo kami diyan. In a short span of time, they were able to produce the teams and the coaching staff, preparation sa training and everything.

“Hindi ganoon kadali in a short span of time. I also respect those teams na hindi nakasali ngayon because of that time frame but for sure this next season, we will be, I think more than 10 pa,” he added.
