The ‘new’ Sunnies Café: Your favorite cool kid gets even cooler

Remember that impossibly cool friend who somehow got even cooler after studying abroad? That’s basically what happened to Sunnies Café. The beloved BGC hotspot just reopened its doors on February 15 after a major glow-up – and trust me – you’re going to want to be here.

The iconic café, which first captured Manila’s heart (and Instagram feeds) back in 2016, hasn’t just gotten a fresh coat of paint. It’s evolved into something entirely new while keeping all the things we fell in love with in the first place.

A menu that throws out the rulebook

Half of the menu’s all new – inspired by our travels!” exclaimed man of the hour, Eric Dee, President and COO of FooDee Global Concepts. “What we decided was ‘as long as it’s delicious, we put it on a plate’ – it doesn’t matter whether it makes sense to the concept or not – basta masarap!”

This deliciously rebellious approach has resulted in what Dee calls ‘borderless cuisine’ – a passport-stamped menu that hops from Spain to Korea, Japan to Thailand, before coming home to the Philippines.

New or coming back to Sunnies? We gotchu!

The breakfast menu still features your morning favorites, but better. The Fried Chicken & Pancakes you used to dream about? They’ve somehow made it even dreamier. Those rice bowls that got you through countless lunch breaks? Still there, but with clever new twists. And yes, they’ve jumped on the Croffle bandwagon -but in true Sunnies style, they’re offering both sweet and savory spins that’ll make you forget every other Croffle you’ve tried.

The small plates menu reads like a greatest hits album of global street food. The Fried Smashed Potatoes come dressed to impress with chimichurri and blue cheese sauce, while the Crispy Pig’s Ears are a conversation starter that’ll have you coming back for seconds. But the real showstopper? Personally, it’s the Sea Bream Crudo with Thai Sauce – it’s bright, punchy, and wakes up your taste buds.

Pasta enthusiasts will rejoice: The kitchen crafts their Roasted Tomato Pasta and Spicy Vodka Fusilli with Parmesan Reggiano to deliver more than just comfort – they wrap you in a warm hug from your coolest Italian friend. The shareables shine too: Sticky Short Ribs reimagine pares brilliantly, Nam Jim Jaew kicks up the Grilled Delmonico Steak, and spicy garlic butter elevates the Pan-Roasted Prawns to must-mop-up-with-bread status.

More than a meal

Sunnies Café BGC isn’t just serving food – it’s serving a vibe. Whether you’re popping in for a quick coffee and pastry, launching into a long brunch with friends, or settling in for dinner, every visit feels like you’re part of something special. It’s where food meets fashion, where design meets dining, and where Manila’s past and future collide on a plate.

The café that helped define BGC’s food scene is ready for its next chapter. And from where we’re sitting (at one of their nicely lit tables, naturally), the future looks delicious.
