The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) reaffirmed its commitment to social responsibility and humanitarian assistance as it turned over 500 ChariTimba food packs to the municipality of Obando, Bulacan, on September 16, 2025. The initiative formed part of the agency’s ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, which aims to bring relief and comfort to Filipinos in times of hardship.
The ceremonial turnover was spearheaded by PCSO Assistant General Manager for the Charity Sector, Atty. Lauro Patiag, who personally handed the donations to Councilor Felipe Dela Cruz on behalf of the local government of Obando. The event underscored the importance of close cooperation between national government agencies and local government units (LGUs) in delivering assistance to affected families.
According to Councilor Dela Cruz, the food packs will be distributed to residents whose lives were severely disrupted by tropical storms Crising, Dante, and Emong, which struck the province in July 2025. These successive storms brought widespread flooding, damaged livelihoods, and left many households struggling to recover. For vulnerable communities such as Obando—known for its coastal villages that are highly prone to flooding—timely relief aid remains a lifeline.
The ChariTimba program, one of PCSO’s flagship community initiatives, provides essential food packs containing rice, canned goods, and other basic necessities for disaster-affected families. By extending such assistance, the PCSO seeks not only to provide immediate relief but also to ease the burden of recovery for low-income households.
For PCSO, initiatives like these go beyond charity—they are part of the agency’s legal mandate to serve the Filipino people. Established in 1934, the PCSO generates funds through various gaming activities such as lotto, small-town lottery (STL), and sweepstakes. A large portion of its revenues is allocated to health and welfare programs, disaster relief, and medical assistance. The agency has long emphasized that every ticket bought is not just a chance at fortune but a contribution to public service, a message echoed in its tagline: “Sa Bawat Taya, May Kawanggawa.”
Atty. Patiag highlighted that this turnover reflects the agency’s enduring mission to uplift communities in need. “We are here not just to extend food assistance, but to show the people of Obando that the government is present and responsive in times of crisis,” he said. He also assured that the PCSO will continue to strengthen its outreach programs in partnership with LGUs, particularly in areas frequently affected by natural calamities.
The Obando LGU, meanwhile, expressed gratitude for the timely assistance, noting that it will significantly help families who are still reeling from the effects of the storms. Councilor Dela Cruz said the local government remains committed to ensuring fair and efficient distribution of the ChariTimba packs so that the most vulnerable households will benefit.
Through initiatives such as the ChariTimba food pack distribution, the PCSO continues to demonstrate its role as one of the country’s corporate champions for social good. By turning games of chance into opportunities for compassion, the agency strengthens the spirit of solidarity and bayanihan, ensuring that Filipinos facing adversity never stand alone.
