Singer-actress Toni Gonzaga will no longer host “Pinoy Big Brother.”
Gonzaga posted a statement on her Instagram account yesterday which she captioned: “Sending you all my love…(followed by heart emoji and peace sign)”
Her statement read: “It has been my greatest honor to host PBB for 16 years.
“From witnessing all my co-hosts transition from housemates to PBB hosts are just some of the best moments in my life sa bahay ni Kuya!
“Today, I’m stepping down as main host. I know Bianca and the rest of the hosts will continue the PBB legacy.
“It has been my privilege to greet you all with ‘Hello Philippines’ and ‘Hello World’ for the last 16 years.
“I will forever cherish the memories, big nights and moments in my heart.
“Thank you Kuya for everything.”
She ended it with: “This is your angel, now signing off…”
Gonzaga was top trending topic in the Philippines on Tuesday, after her hosting of the Bongbong Marcos-Sarah Duterte proclamation show at the Philippine Arena in Sta. Maria, Bulacan.
Some quarters lambasted the actress, who is a known Kapamilya talent, particularly after her introduction to senatorial aspirant Rodante Marcoleta, who they say was instrumental in ABS-CBN losing its franchise in 2020 and the subsequent loss of employment of thousands of its workers.
There were those who demanded that she be “evicted” from the Kapamilya reality show “Pinoy Big Brother,” which she hosts with Bianca Gonzales.
On Wednesday, ABS-CBN entertainment reporter MJ Felipe tweeted that Gonzaga was leaving the show.
“According to a reliable source, Toni Gonzaga will no longer host ‘Pinoy Big Brother.’ No formal resignation but source said Toni has voluntarily endorsed the main hosting job to Bianca Gonzalez. Reached out to PBB and Toni, awaiting for their official statements.”
Toni Gonzaga, 38, started her career as singer. Later, she made a splash in a commercial with Piolo Pascual. She became a mainstay of “Eat Bulaga” in 2002 until her transfer to ABS-CBN in January 2005. She also released several albums and is a concert performer.
She is married to director-producer Paul Soriano, with whom she has a son, Seve. Vlogger and actress Alex Gonzaga is her sister.
