The cast of “MAKA”
“MAKA,” GMA Public Affairs’ newest youth-oriented series merges teen drama with musical elements.
The series delves into the challenges faced by Gen Z, while highlighting their interactions with millennials, Gen X, and boomers. Set in the Arts & Performance (A&P) section of Douglas MacArthur High School for the Arts, the narrative features Sir V, portrayed by seasoned actor Romnick Sarmenta.
“MAKA” showcases a talented ensemble of Gen Z actors, including Sparkle stars Zephanie, Ashley Sarmiento, and Marco Masa, along with emerging talents Olive May, John Clifford, Dylan Menor, Sean Lucas, May Ann Basa, a.k.a. ”Bangus Girl” and Chanty Videla from K-Pop group Lapillus.
Zephanie is Zeph Molina. The top singer in her section, Zeph faces stage fright despite her leadership skills.
Dylan Menor plays Dylan dela Paz, a bully who skips classes.
Ashley Sarmiento is Ash Salonga, an 8th-grader and TikTok star who longs for authentic connections beyond her online persona.
Marco Masa plays Marco Reyes, a church choir member whose crush inspires him to explore theater, questioning whether it will ignite his artistic passion.
John Clifford plays JC Serrano. Exposed to art through his family’s funeral home, JC aims to prove his talent in visual arts at MAKA.
Olive May is Livvy Ilagan, a passionate playwright and songwriter, Livvy’s dramatic flair may lead her to a significant connection with JC.
Sean Lucan is Sean Dimaculangan, an aspiring artist from an athletic family that disapproves of his artistic pursuits.
May Ann Basa is May Ann Cortez, an 8th-grader from Capiz who struggles academically and artistically but is determined to navigate her independent life.
Chanty Videla is Chanty Villanueva, an outstanding singer and upper-class student who competes with Zeph for recognition in their school.
Viewers can follow their journeys at Douglas MacArthur High School for the Arts as they experience the highs and lows of Gen Z life.
“MAKA” airs every Saturday at 4:45 p.m. on GMA and Kapuso Stream, with international viewers able to watch via GMA Pinoy TV.
