Netflix confirms casting of Han So-Hee and Ahn Bo-Hyun for action noir series
SEOUL – Netflix, the world’s leading streaming entertainment service, confirmed casting for its new action noir series “Undercover” (working title). The outstanding team of actors includes Han So-hee, Park Hee-soon, Ahn Bo-hyun, Kim Sang-ho, Lee Hak-ju and Jang Yull.
“Undercover” (working title) tells the story of Ji-u, who joins a drug cartel and becomes a mole in the police force to seek the truth behind her father’s death. She encounters harsh truths in the course of carrying out her revenge.
Han So-hee, best known for her recent performance in the hit series “The World of the Married,” takes on the powerful role of Yun Ji-u, who enters a criminal organization to avenge her father who died under suspicious circumstances. She becomes the organization’s undercover agent in the police force and begins delving into the secret behind her father’s death.
Park Hee-soon (“The Witch: Part 1”) portrays Choi Mu-jin, who is the kingpin of Dongcheon, the country’s top drug cartel. He is an indecipherable character who takes Yun Ji-u under his wings and turns her into an undercover agent.
Ahn Bo-hyun, who made an impression as the not-so-hateable villain in Itaewon Class, will play police detective Jeon Pil-do of the narcotics unit, who is Ji-u’s competent, gutsy and scrupulous partner in investigation.
Kim Sang-ho, best known to Netflix viewers for his performance in the popular Korean original series “Kingdom,” will play Cha Gi-ho, the chief of the narcotics unit. He becomes obsessed with bringing down the Dongcheon cartel before his retirement, mightily clashing with Choi Mu-jin in the process.
Lee Hak-ju (“The World of the Married”) will play Choi Mu-jin’s underling Jung Tae-ju, whose unconditional loyalty and obedience earns him the rare trust of his boss.
Jang Yull will portray Do Gang-jae, a cartel member ousted for causing trouble. He later wields his vengeful knife against Yun Ji-u, adding another layer of conflict to the story.
Promising thrilling action and explosive characters, “Undercover” (working title), written by Kim Va-da, will be produced by STUDIO SANTA CLAUS ENTERTAINMENT Co., Ltd (f.k.a Fleet Co., Ltd) and directed by Kim Jin-min.
“Undercover” will be released worldwide, only on Netflix.
Free Pinoy films on YouTube’s Super Stream
Filipino film fanatics will continue to enjoy binge-worthy entertainment this month as ABS-CBN showcases 14 movies for free, including flicks from Cinema One Originals and Star Cinema via YouTube Super Stream.
Until midnight of September 28, viewers can watch on Cinema One’s YouTube channel the Cinemalaya film “Ligo Na U, Lapit Na Me,” which sheds light on post-modern love and relationships through college students (Edgar Allan Guzman and Mercedes Cabral) who enter a casual sexual relationship. Thrill-seeking viewers can also stream “Bukas Na Lang Sapagkat Gabi Na,” which tells four interconnected tales set during the ‘70s Martial Law era.
The Cinema One Originals documentary film “Forbidden Memory” about the never-been-heard-of story of the 1974 Malisbong massacre survivors will be streaming from September 23 to 28.
LGBTQ-themed stories are also showing until September 30, including Cinema One Originals films “Baka Bukas” and “Mamu; and a Mother Too,” as well as the critically-acclaimed Cinemalaya movie “Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros.”
More riveting and inspiring films that can be streamed for free on the Cinema One YouTube channel until the end of the month are “Happyland,” about a group of underprivileged Tondo boys who find hope through football, 2018 Cinema One Originals Best Film “Paglisan,” an animated film starring Eula Valdez and Ian Veneracion that explores a married couple’s attempt to survive together in the midst of illnesses, and “Tisay,” where a beautiful bookie (Nathalie Hart) recruits a promising player (JC De Vera) to the underworld of game-fixing in semi-pro basketball.
The Star Cinema YouTube channel, meanwhile, will stream until September 26 the iconic barkada comedy-drama film “Jologs,” starring Diether Ocampo, John Prats, Vhong Navarro, and Jodi Sta. Maria, and “Agawan Base,” where Jolina Magdangal plays a documentarian whose agnosticism is tested when she films her subject, an impoverished child who believes in God.
Also streaming are horror flick “Amorosa: The Revenge,” where a mother (Angel Aquino) tries to protect her sons from an angry spirit, and “Padre de Pamilya,” which follows a man’s (Ariel Rivera) struggle to provide for his family and gets involved in a mayor’s devious deal. Star Cinema also offers two romances, “Once A Princess” where Erin (Erich Gonzales) reunites with a high school sweetheart (Enchong Dee) she probably still loves, and “Bromance: My Brother’s Romance,” where a man (Zanjoe Marudo) pretends to be his gay brother in order to save his business.
