ABS-CBN leads Ph winners at Asian Academy Creative Awards 2020
ABS-CBN brings honor to the country with 14 national winners at the prestigious Asian Academy Creative Awards (AAAs) 2020 that will represent the Philippines and compete against the best of Asian countries in the regional awards night happening this December.
ABS-CBN won the most national awards for the Philippines with 13 recognitions that include Best Telenovela/Soap Opera for “Killer Bride” and Best Drama Series for “A Soldier’s Heart.” ABS-CBN’s 14th winner is “Jake and Charice,” a co-production with Documentary Japan Inc., that won Best Documentary Programme in Japan.
ABS-CBN’s other content for different platforms are also in the running to be named the best in the region, such as original Kapamilya talent reality show “Your Moment” (Best Non-Scripted Entertainment) and “Dreamcatchers: Malapacao (Season 3)” (Best Lifestyle Program).
Meanwhile, ABS-CBN Film Productions Inc.’s “Hello, Love, Goodbye,” the highest-grossing local film, continues its winning streak as national winner for Best Feature Film, while its director Cathy Garcia-Molina was named Best Director (Fiction). Cathy, Carmi Raymundo, and Rona Co also won Best Original Screenplay for their work in the movie.
ABS-CBN, the country’s leading media and entertainment company, also bagged awards for its digital offerings via ABS-CBN streaming service iWant (now iWantTFC). These include Best Original Program by an OTT for “The Tapes,” Best Documentary Series for “The Last Manilaners,” Best Animated Series (2D or 3D) for “Jet and the Pet Rangers,” and Best Actor for Arjo Atayde for the iWant orginal series “Bagman.”
UxS and ABS-CBN’s “Coke Studio (Season 3),” on the other hand, won in the Best Branded Programme or Series and Best Music or Dance Programme categories.

GMA News and Public Affairs wins big at the Asian Academy Creative Awards 2020
GMA Network’s News and Public Affairs programs and personalities triumphed as National Winners in the prestigious Asian Academy Creative Awards (AAA’s) 2020, dominating the Philippine contingent in the news and documentary categories.
Besting other nominees from the country is GMA news pillar Jessica Soho who won as Best News Anchor for GMA’s flagship newscast “24 Oras.” Her award-winning news magazine show “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho: Denmark Special” emerged as Best Infotainment Program.
Meanwhile, “24 Oras’” “Lakad sa EDSA” news report was named Best Single News Story. GMA News reporter Raffy Tima walked the stretch of EDSA along with other workers who were traveling to their workplace by foot due to the lack of transportation amid the community quarantine.
“The Atom Araullo Specials’” “COVID-19: Nang Tumigil ang Mundo,” was recognized as Best Documentary Program (One-off). The compelling documentary narrated the ongoing battle of the Philippines against COVID-19, with vignettes on how the pandemic has altered the lives not only of Filipinos but of the rest of the world.
Meanwhile, “Reel Time Exclusives’” (RTx) “Ang Huling Saklolo ni Marcelo” won Best Short Form Content. This poignant online documentary featured an overseas Filipino worker in Saudi Arabia pleading for help on video days before he died due to COVID-19. “RTx” was an off shoot of award-winning documentary brand “Reel Time” which was born during the community quarantine.
Finally, winning second time in a row as Best Lifestyle Host was Drew Arellano. Drew was recognized for the “Biyahe ni Drew” episode “Drew Hits the Road: Taiwan’s Secrets to Long Life.”
As national winners, they will represent the Philippines in the Grand Awards and Gala Final on December 3 and 4.
Matti’s ‘Food Lore: Island of Dreams’ bags 2 awards at the 2020 National (Philippines) Awards by the Asian Academy Creative Awards
Erik Matti’s “Food Lore: Island of Dreams” and Angeli Bayani recently brought home the “Best Single Drama/Telemovie/Anthology Episode – Philippines” and “Best Actress in a Leading Role – Philippines” respectively during the announcement of the 2020 national winners by the Asian Academy Creative Awards (AAA) in a livecast in Singapore yesterday.
“Food Lore: Island of Dreams,” was the pilot episode of the said HBO Asia anthology.
The said episode explores the life of the Nieves (Angeli Bayani), an ambitious and hardworking woman, who left her husband and children to work as a domestic helper in Metro Manila to provide them with a better life. Returning home for their annual fiesta, Nieves realizes that she may have grown estranged to her family due to unexpected changes in her life.
“Food Lore” was recognized as one of the main attractions of the current members of the AAA jury, showcasing the high-quality content that HBO Asia offers to viewers across the region.
Recently, Matti also won Best Director of a Scripted TV Programme and “Food Lore” bagged the Best Asian Drama for Regional/International Market category in the recently-held ContentAsia Awards last August.
Other episodes of “Food Lore” that were recognized in the AAA awards are “He Serves Fish, She Eats Flower” for Best Cinematography (Vietnam), “Life in a Box” for Best Direction (Japan) and “Maria’s Secret Recipe” for Best Single Drama/Telemovie/Anthology Episode (Indonesia).
