Starring Rose Van Ginkel, Marco Gallo and the recent toast of Cannes’ Dolly de Leon, “Kitty K7” is a production of award-winning filmmakers Antoinette Jadaone and Dan Villegas and directed by Joy Aquino.

In the film, heartbreak results in the awakening of Hana, played by Rose. She explores things she never thought she’d do after her failed relationship of seven years. After resolving to meet more people, her paths crosses with that of Krishna (Marco), a well-traveled photographer.

Hana poses for Krishna’s photos, and the young man takes erotic shots of her. The two soon connect on a different level, and the tension between them rises and they eventually sleep together.

Krishna records their lovemaking. This shared moments with Krishna change something about Hana, and from being boring and reserved, she becomes wild and liberated. Hana loses contact with Krishna but continues with this new self-discovery and introduces to the internet her alter-ego, the cam girl – Kitty K7.

More than just showing her loss of innocence and inhibition, “Kitty K7” is also how Hana faces criticism and judgment from her family and friends because of her life choices.

What makes the movie unique, said producer-filmmaker Dan Villegas, is the perspective of its female director. Direk Joy clearly knew what she wanted to say, and she was consistent with it, said Villegas.

“First of all [what makes this different from films of the same genre is] ‘yung approach ni Direk Joy sa storytelling,” said Villegas, “kasi it was very sensitive and I think it being from the eyes of a female director makes all the difference. Na hindi siya basta basta objectified, kaya kita mo kaagad ang effort ni Direk Joy to have a statement. ‘Yung pelikula merong gustong sabihin, merong statement, merong point. Consistent sya from Day 1 even from pre-prod even sa creatives ng scriptwriting, sobra siyang creative.”

Director Aquino said having the chance to direct sexy films does not happen often. “Kitty K7” gave her the opportunity to present a different perspective on the topic of sex. She added that it was a group effort — with everyone in the production contributing to the film’s message of respect.

“I want to give props to the people I work with. They know that this film needs to come from a different perspective or else it might not work. So we are very conscious about even just picking the people we will work with and the execution plan,” she explained. “’Yung kinuwento ni Rose na inilatag lahat ng sex scenes, that was really a process na we wanted to do, hindi lang ako, even our assistant director, really wanted to make sure na alam nila Rose and Marco what they’re going to get themselves into. Kasi madaling magwento, when you get the script, there’s a love scene there, naghahalikan sila, nag sex sila. But once you start visualizing it, it’s different na. What we want to avoid is once they’re on the set, they’re gonna get overwhelmed, so what we are trying to do is aside from giving them the respect they deserve as actors, we also want to help them. There is the sensitivity for the material and also the actors we are working with, it is also being applied and executed not just by me but by the people working around the set.”
