As “Regal Studio Presents” marks its third anniversary, its creative manager, director Easy Ferrer, has a clear vision for the perfect cast and concept a special episode.
At the program’s press conference last Saturday at Regal Valencia, Ferrer expressed his desire to create a story featuring “GMA primetime girls” Bianca Umali, Barbie Forteza, and Sanya Lopez. “Gusto ko riot comedy. ‘Yung female comedy lang,” he said. “Parang heist, ganon siguro, mga bolera sila para comedy.”
Ferrer’s enthusiasm for this concept reflects the show’s commitment to family stories and engaging content that resonates with audiences. Regal Studio Presents, which has been winning in the ratings, owes its success to a loyal following, which, as Ferrer shared, consists mostly of “families, working-class women, and the youth. Fambam talaga.”
“We have good numbers because naging staple na siya sa mga audiences. Naging ‘comfort food’ na siya,” he added.
The show’s success is a team effort, Ferrer stated. “We welcome different storytellers.”
Ferrer actively solicits contributions from various writers and directors, guaranteeing that the stories stay diverse and engaging.
“Parang quality control na nga ang ginagawa ko, kasi kailangan papasok sa’min fresh, dapat bago, pero at the same time, may market din.
“Syempre ang ‘Regal Studio Presents’ dapat ‘yun ang iki-cater nun ang concept should be not too dark, not too sad, dapat family oriented pa rin kasi Sunday viewing, at the same time, kailangan bago, exciting siya.”
The anthology format allows for different genres and unexpected storylines each week, which Ferrer believes excites the audience. “It’s an anthology, so you get to watch different stories every week. So iba yung makikita mong istorya, iba yung combination, laging fresh, so parang laging unexpected. Tapos iba-iba ‘yung genre. Kasi yung ibang anthology puro drama lang, pero dito kasi biglang nagiging comedy, tapos next week horror.”
Direk Easy identifies three standout episodes from “Regal Studio Presents” that exemplify the show’s appeal and creativity. One of these is “Karinderya Queens,” which features actors Derrick Monasterio, Cassie Banks, and Maxine Medina. Ferrer loves this episode for its humor and high ratings, stating, “bukod sa mataas yung rating, sobrang riot non.” Another notable episode is “Pasko ni Santi,” a heartwarming Christmas special that continues to resonate with viewers, as Ferrer points out, “napaka heartwarming niya tsaka nag hanggang ngayon nagte-trend siya sa TikTok.” Lastly, he highlights the inaugural episode featuring Ken Chan and Sanya Lopez, praising its actors and strong concept, noting, “It’s written by Direk Joey Reyes.”
“Regal Studio Presents” airs every Sunday at 4:15 p.m. on GMA.
