“ZOOMERS” was awarded the Best Asian Short-Form Drama/Series at the ContentAsia Awards last September 5.
To celebrate, the show’s creative director Theodore Boborol, who personally received the award in Taipei, with the main cast of Zoomers – Harvey Bautista, Krystl Ball, Ralph de Leon, Luke Alford, and Criza – met with the press to last September 26 to share their excitement over the award as well as their shared experiences from working on the series.
“Who would have thought? Kasi we’re supposedly just an online show and mga baguhan. And then biglang Best Asian Short-Form series? I feel pride for the creative team, for the directors and the cast and I’m hoping na ‘yung award na ‘yan na it will inspire them, na there is no small project or big project. Just put your heart into it, mapapansin ka at mapapansin ka,” Direk Theodore said.
“Zoomers” features a mix of fresh faces and familiar teen actors. Harvey Bautista, known for his time on “Goin’ Bulilit,” recently took on a special role in “Pamilya Sagrado” and appeared in “High Street.” In “Zoomers,” he is Jiggs, the love interest of Hope, played by Criza.
“I’m very proud of this cast and for me its still very overwhelming. It’s still very scary for me getting all the attention na I’m not used to. But I’m still grateful for the opportunities that have come for me this year,” Harvey said.
The series also introduces fresh faces to the spotlight. Making her acting debut, Krystl Ball portrays Tania. She is part of a compelling Girls’ Love storyline alongside fellow Star Magic artist Kei Kurosawa.
Krystl shared her thoughts about her experience with this project: “I was struggling talaga with the script, everything, nagpatulong ako sa mga classmates ko kasi I have no experience at all but of course I saw my improvements with my tagalog, acting, facial expression. I’m hoping for my next project and I’ll be more confident and hopefully I get to play roles other than what I played in ‘Zoomers’.”
“Zoomers” also introduces Ralph de Leon, a multi-talented athlete, model, host, and actor, who takes on the role of Atom in the series. He recently secured a role in “High Street,” where his character was part of a love triangle with the one played by Xyriel Manabat.
“Just being able to bring my real-life experiences as someone who always pressured myself to be able to achieve a lot – medyo therapeutic din siya, noong nalalabas ko siya sa eksena. So, it was a great experience,“ Ralph stated.
Luke Alford, another member of the main cast, plays the cheerful Kokoy. He first gained recognition on “The Voice Kids” and “PBB: Kumunity Season 10.” Since then, he has steadily been expanding his acting credits.
“Nakakpressure kasi kasama na siya sa portfolio namin. Mas gagalingan pa, mas magfo-focus sa craft na kung paano kami mag eexcel sa pag-acting and kahit sa pag-peperform, at sa pag influence ng ibang tao,” Luke said, when asked about their next step after their win.
Actress and influencer Criza, who first gained recognition as a housemate on “PBB Otso” in 2018, is also a key member of the “Zoomers” main cast, playing Hope opposite Harvey’s Jiggs.
“Super overwhelming kasi knowing na kaming dalawa ni Harvey, ito ‘yung first bida role namin and then may award agad,” Criza shared, “Sobrang sarap sa feeling and in a way parang nakakapressure din siya.”
“Zoomers” boasts a talented team both behind and in front of the camera, making their recent win a well-deserved achievement.
