Palay production estimates
PALAY production from July to September is estimated to fall but corn output is expected to increase from their levels in the same period in 2023, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
The PSA in a statement yesterday said based on standing crop as of August 1, the estimated palay production may decrease to 3.36 million metric tons (MT) or by 11.4 percent from its actual output of 3.80 million MT in the same period in 2023.
The updated estimate of palay production for July to September as of August 1 further declined by 0.7 percent from the 3.39 million metric tons estimates as of July 1.
PSA data showed the estimated harvest area based on standing crop for July to September may decrease to 796,470 hectares (ha) or by 14.1 percent from the 926,920 ha of actual harvested area in the same period of 2023.
Based on standing crop for July to September, the yield per hectare of palay may increase to 4.22 MT or by 2.9 percent from the previous year’s same period yield per hectare of 4.10 MT.
The PSA said the estimated corn production based on standing crop for July to September 2024 as of August 1 may increase to 2.52 million MT or by 2.4 percent from its actual estimate of 2.47 million MT in the same period of 2023.
The updated estimate of corn production based on standing crop as exhibited a decrease of 0.3 percent from the 2.53 million MT recorded estimate as of July 1.
Harvest area based on standing crop for July to September may decrease to 806,530 ha or by 1.9 percent from the 822,400 ha actual estimate of harvest area in the same period of the previous year.
Yield per hectare of corn may increase to 3.13 MT or by 4.3 percent from the previous year’s same quarter yield per hectare of 3 MT.
