‘I love it that may element of woman empowerment kasi billiards is associated with men — Kylie Padilla’

KYLIE PADILLA

KYLIE Padilla, after her failed marriage to Aljur Abrenica, return in a teleserye in “Bolera,” where she plays Joni, a simple girl who becomes an ace billiards player.

“When the role was offered to me, I was so nervous as I don’t know anything about billiards,” she says. “But they told me they will train me and as we taped it, I really fell in love with the game.”

One challenge to her is that her character is left-handed. “Yes, nahirapan ako kasi kaliwete si Joni and I’m really right handed. My coaches trained me using my left hand. I told myself, kaya natin ito. And as the taping goes on, I just enjoyed what we were doing.”

Does she think that “Bolera” is the perfect comeback vehicle for her?

“Yes, I’m so proud of this show. I love it that may element of woman empowerment kasi billiards is associated with men, but Joni is isang babaeng may pinaglalaban dahil sa family niya, specially for her dad who’s wrongly accused of something he didn’t do.”

She has two leading men in “Bolera,” Rayver Cruz as Miguel, a billiard champ and Jak Roberto as Toypits, her best friend turned manager who’s secretly in love with her. “They’re both good in playing the game at tinulungan din nila ako,” she says. “We’re all so blessed to work with each other. Lahat kami sa set, nag-jive talaga.”

Is she open to having new suitors?

“As of now, hindi ko siya iniisip. Kasi priority ko muna mga anak ko, tapos ang career ko kasi kababalik ko pa lang. Kung sinuman siya, dapat matanggap niya muna lahat ng ‘yun.”

“Bolera” will start airing on GMA this May 30, replacing the short-lived “False Positive.”

Denise Esteban and Angela Morena, new Vivamax sexpots, play contrasting characters in the new series directed by GB Sampedro that starts streaming on June 5, “High (School) on Sex.” It’s about high school students and their misadventures involving sex.

Denise plays Issa, a student who has the reputation of being a whore, but the truth is that she is still a virgin. Angela plays Mavic, who has the reputation of being a virgin, but the truth is she is not that innocent anymore and has enjoyed sex.

In real life, how did they learn about sex, the birds and the bees?

“Ideally, you should learn it from your parents but kadalasan, we learn it from our friends, our classmates,” says Denise. “Kami ng friends ko, nanonood kami sa phone ng porn. And when Vivamax took me to do sexy movies with them, I did my own research by watching porn sites which are now so accessible.”

“Ako naman, I learned it from my teacher sa school, she explained it to us,” says Angela.

“Also from my classmates. Then when I was with my aunt in Singapore, she allowed me to watch porn.”

Do they approve of pre-marital sex? “I was brought up by my parents sa belief na you should give yourself sa kung sino lang ang mapapangasawa mo,” says Denise. “But now I’ve learned to understand the opinion of other people. Kanya-kanyang paniniwala naman ‘yan.”

“Traditional culture ‘yung belief na sex is only in marriage, dapat sa asawa mo lang,” says Angela. “Some people think sex before marriage is parang immoral. But we’re all entitled sa sarili nating paniniwala, so I just respect the perspective or choice of other people.”

Ai Ai De Las Alas and Shayne Sava have reason to be happy as their first drama series together, “Raising Mamay,” is rating very well after a month’s telecast on the afternoon slot of GMA.

“Nakakatuwa dahil nagustuhan ng viewers ang istorya ng isang inang bumalik ang isip sa pagkabata after accidentally being shot in the head,” says Ai Ai. “Nagkaroon siya ng regressive behavioral disorder. Everywhere I go, people tell me they love watching ‘Raising Mamay’.”

Shayne says she’ll forever be grateful to GMA for giving her this project. “Dahil sa role as Abigail, mas nagkaroon ako ng recall sa viewers,” she says. “Maski sa internet feedback, very positive ang mga sinasabi nila about our show.”

Shayne is showing a lot of maturity in her role as the daughter who takes care of her ailing mother and the audience notices this, commending her for her performance as Abigail.

Because of the show, viewers became more aware that there is such a rare case or condition where an adult can have regressive behavior showing infantile conduct (ugaling bata). Elderly and psychiatric patients can also exhibit this behavior.

Shayne says viewers tell her that “Raising Mamay” make them alternately laugh and cry.

“Maraming funny scenes pero very touching din ang relationship namin ni Ms. Ai Ai as mag-ina. Abangan nyo rin ang pag-develop ng love story namin ni Abdul Rahman. Rich guy siya rito at poor girl at maraming magtatangkang humadlang sa relationship namin.”
