Under Bela Padilla’s spell

BOY Abunda’s “Fast Talk” is now a frequent source of showbiz stories. Reporters regularly quote stories from Boy’s interviews with celebrities like Marian Rivera (who says the sexiest part of hubby Dingdong Dantes is his chest), Bea Alonzo (who said she doesn’t mind if her boyfriend Dominic Roque is considered a starlet compared to her), Alden Richards (who revealed the real score between him and girls linked to him like Julie Anne San Jose and Winwyn Marquez), and Paolo Contis (who was bashed for admitting he’s on with Yen Santos and he doesn’t give financial support to his daughters with Lian Paz and LJ Reyes).

The most recent guest is Dina Bonnevie and they recalled Dina reprimanding Alex Gonzaga for being so late in the taping of their drama show, “PS I Love You,” on TV5 12 years ago.

What’s intriguing about the Dina interview is that Nadine Lustre got involved. Dina revealed that Alex got angry when Nadine shed tears ahead of her when they had a scene together.

Alex said it’s her scene so Nadine should not cry ahead of her.

Of course, Nadine fans felt bad about it. They say it just goes to show that Nadine is really the better actress between the two. “Kasi si Nadine, mahusay talagang umarte,” wrote one netizen. “Si Alex, hirap na hirap umiyak kasi banong artista pero si Nadine can cry at will and on cue.”

Alex’ camp should really do a lot of damage control. She still has to fully recover from the “waiter pahid ng cake” fiasco and now comes this Dina-Nadine issue. And most of the netizens are siding with both Dina and Nadine.

Director Adolfo Alix, Jr. is directing Ate Guy anew in “Pieta,” a drama produced by Councilor Alfred Vargas. Direk Alix wants to stress that it’s an original story he wrote and not a remake of the Carlo Caparas movie that earlier starred Vivian Velez.

Alfred plays Isaac who spent years in jail for parricide. He’s wrongly accused of killing his own dad and now that he has regained his freedom, he returns to his mother, Nora Aunor as Rebecca, to find out the truth about what really happened that fateful night when his father died.

But his mom is now nearly blind and is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. She no longer remembers what really happened. She can no longer even recognize her own son.

She is now being taken care of by a long-time loyal friend, Gina Alajar as Beth, who advises Isaac to just forget about the past and his search for the truth so he can move forward.

Isaac wants to turn over a new leaf and start life anew, but his adversaries won’t leave him alone. Eventually, he’d be able to ferret out the truth and what he discovers will shock not only him but even more so the audience.

Direk Adolf is excited to direct two of the country’s most awarded actresses, Nora and Gina, together in one movie. “I saw Ate Guy in ‘Bona’ and Direk Gina in ‘Salome’ and ‘Orapronobis’ sa CCP. I eventually got to direct them, Ate Guy in ‘Padre de Pamilya’ and in ‘Kontrabida,’ si Direk Gina in ‘Mater Dolorosa.’ My favorite actress then was Lolita Rodriguez and they’ve both worked with her before, so nagpapakuwento ako sa kanila about their experiences with Lolita. Direk Gina worked with her in ‘Lucia’ and Ate Guy worked with her in ‘Ina Ka ng Anak Mo’ at ang gaganda ng kuwento nila about Lolita.”

‘A lot of writers present at its premiere night at Megamall believe it’s scarier than “Deleter” and Bela gives an even more effective performance than Nadine Lustre.’

Bela Padilla

Bela Padilla is now based in London but she’s currently in town to help promote her movie, “Spellbound,” that is showing in cinemas. We were entertained by her performance as a young woman who can see dead people and seriously bothered by their continuous presence in her life.

A lot of writers present at its premiere night at Megamall believe it’s scarier than “Deleter” and Bela gives an even more effective performance than Nadine Lustre. We know it’s not fair to compare, but we are inclined to believe in what they say.

“Spellbound” is a combination of romcom and horror and Bela is so effective even in the comic scenes, specially her drunken scene in a bar, that not just any actress can do that convincingly on screen.

So until when will she be staying here in Manila? “I will be here for one month,” she says. “I miss our country but I now have two homes.”

And which one does she prefer? “I love them both. Hindi puedeng pagkumparahin kasi sobrang magkaiba sila, like apples and oranges, but our country will always be home for me. Iba pa rin ang pakiramdam kapag umuuwi ako sa Pilipinas.

“My dad is British and my real family name is Sullivan, so I’m half Filipina, half British. I’ve lived my whole life in my mom’s home, the Philippines, so I felt it’s about time I find out how it is to live in my dad’s home. For years, I’ve been telling my friends I think it’s time for me to move and try new challenges. The move is actually a leap of faith for me. I left Manila in 2019 and I’m enjoying my independent life in London.”
