‘They’d rather use that amount to buy rice and other goodies that will put food on their table.’
The Rain in España” is a youth-oriented series of 10 episodes based on the hit Wattpad University series which has 550 million combined reads, written by Gwy Saludes and directed by Ted Boborol for Viva. The lead roles will be played by “Pinoy Big Brother” 2016 housemates Heaven Peralejo and Marco Gallo, whose love team is billed as “Marven.”
Heaven as Luna is taking up architecture at UST on España Ave., Manila, while Marco as Kalix is taking up law at the Ateneo in Loyola. Despite the long distance between their universities, they meet, fall in love and the series will chronicle the ups and down in their relationships for ten years.
“It’s a good feeling to see Marco again after six years,” says Heaven. “Okay kami agad and we feel comfortable working with each other.”
Is she aware that some netizens do not approve of the casting Viva chose for “The Rain in Espana”?
“Yes, I’ve read some of the comments. But you really cannot please everybody so, kami ng mga kasama ko, we just take it as a challenge to prove that Viva didn’t make a mistake in getting us for our respective roles.”
Heaven’s career is really on a roll. She has this new series for the small screen and on the big screen, she has a new movie that is an official entry to the December Metro Manila Film Festival, “Nanahimik ang Gabi,” where she plays the controversial role of Ian Veneracion’s very young lover.

In the fight between starlets Debbie Garcia and Barbie Imperial, there’s no doubt it’s Debbie who’s profiting more.
She’s been doing supporting roles in Viva projects for some years now but she never really made her presence really felt.
But now, all of a sudden, she’s being talked about as the girl na nagdemanda kay Barbie Imperial ng pambubugbog. As for Barbie, the impression of people is negative. They say she obviously has still feelings for Diego Loyzaga that’s why she beat up Debbie out of jealousy. People tell her to move on and just forget Diego who obviously has already gotten over her.

It’s obvious that the shows of GMA are rating higher when they show original material, like “My Husband’s Lover,” “Ika-6 na Utos,” “Apoy sa Langit,” “Meant to Be,” “First Yaya,” “Lolong,” and “Maria Clara at Ibarra.” These shows rated better than the adaptations of Koreanovelas that they have done. So, they should stop doing local versions of foreign shows and just go original.

When we watched “Black Adam” at SM North, we were surprised as there were long, long lines of viewers lining up in the ticket booth. It’s good we’re a senior citizen so we were given special priority.
It turns out that the majority of people lining up for tickets were not watching Black Adam at IMAX like we did, as it’s almost P600 per person. They were there to watch the various horror flicks offered by SM Cinemas as a special Halloween presentation at a very much discounted price of only P150 per person. Some viewers were getting tickets to two movies no less, like they’re watching a double program.
This shows that the price factor is really a big reason why viewers are no longer flocking to theaters like they used. Ticket prices now range from P300 to P500, which is definitely beyond the range of a regular wage earner’s buying capacity. They’d rather use that amount to buy rice and other goodies that will put food on their table.
In the US, they offer special sale for movie tickets to entice audiences to return to cinemas and looks like it’s working for them. So that should be a cue to our producers and theater owners.
