Goodbye teenybopper roles

PATRICIA Javier is the national director of Respect: Noble Queen of the Universe and she says that this year’s coronation night will be held in Tokyo, Japan on December 29.

“The winner last year was from Japan so they’re now hosting the finals,” she says. “The year before that, the winner naman was an American so we had the finals in California. We have three representative this year. Actress Cristina Gonzales is representing the Visayas while the representatives of Luzon and Mindanao are Aileen Shirata and Leira Buan. They’re leaving for Tokyo on December 26, the day after Christmas.”

She says winning the first Noble Queen of the Universe pageant had a very positive effect on her.

“Kasi dati, kilala lang ako for the sexy films I did then with Viva. Pero dahil dito, nakaahon ako sa image na ‘yun. Mas kilala na ako ngayon as a beauty queen and for all the charity projects we are doing all over the country. I’m glad nag-evolve ang image ko at hindi na-stuck sa pagiging sexy star.”

When Patricia and husband Rob Walcher decided to try their luck in Manila in 2014, they were not sure of their prospects here. But when Doc Rob put up his chiropractic clinic on Scout Madrinan, people flocked to it and now they have four other branches in Makati, Alabang, Bacoor in Cavite and Angeles.

Patricia also went back to acting, doing soaps and now, she’s in a new movie, “Lanao,” with Jeric Raval, playing the wife of a mayor in Mindanao. “God has been good to us and guided us sa pag-uwi namin dito sa Pilipinas,” she says.

‘I liked it because it has a valid message for today’s generation na iba na ang values. — Heaven Peralejo’

Heaven Peralejo

Heaven Peralejo is saying goodbye to her teenybopper roles and playing her most mature role to date in Rein Entertainment’s Metro Manila Film Festival entry, “Nanahimik ang Gabi (Silent Night).” She as Me-ann and Ian Veneracion as a cop called Chief play illicit lovers who are having a secret rendezvous in a plush mansion somewhere.

Heaven has a love scene with Ian, with him putting kinky handcuffs on her, and a swimming pool scene with her in a skimpy bikini. What made her consent to go sexy?

“I consulted my mother about it and we both agreed that maganda ang script written by Direk Shugo Praico,” she says. “I liked it because it has a valid message for today’s generation na iba na ang values. I’m a sugar baby here and I’m having an affair with a married man to improve my financial status without knowing that it can have bad consequences. I felt I want to be part of this film because it is thought-provoking and doing it is an eye-opener for me.”

But arriving at such a decision required a lot of self-examination. “First, I asked myself, kaya ko ba ito? Kasi first time ko to do such a role and it will definitely be a milestone in my career. I talked to sina Direk Shugo and Direk Lino Cayetano of Rein Entertainment and they compromised with me on how they want and how I want to do it. They assured me na aalagaan nila ako at hindi nila ako pababayaan in the delicate scenes at yun naman ang nangyari.”

And how is it acting with Ian who’s much older than her? Heaven turned 23 on November 25 while Ian turned 47 last February.

“Kuya Ian and I conducted exercise for us to get to know each other better before we started shooting. It’s important kasi na we are very comfortable with each other para maging credible ang scenes namin together. I think maganda naman ang naging teamwork namin. In the love scenes, or yung kumakandong ako sa kanya, iniisip kong hindi ako yun but my character, si Me-Ann.”
