Let us maintain these low numbers

THE COVID-19 situation in Metro Manila is improving, with the reproduction rate of cases now down to 0.57, as reported by the OCTA Research team yesterday.

The National Capital Region (NCR) logged 1,159 new cases of the disease caused by coronavirus 2019 on Sunday, which number trackers are quick to note as the lowest since July 28, 2021.

Other encouraging statistics are the following. From October 10 to 16, the NCR average of new COVID-19 cases dropped from 1,681 to 1,448. The one-week growth rate stood at -17 percent, according to the OCTA Research group.

The average daily attack rate, or ADAR, which measures the number of new daily cases per 100,000 population also decreased to 10.23 from 11.87.

‘Let us not stretch these privileges to the limit, and be mindful that the National Capital Region is still under the classification of “moderate risk.” It is better for the public to sacrifice some more rather than exacerbate the risk and court the chances of returning to a surge.’

Even the side of the premiere region’s health care capability is showing encouraging numbers. The health care utilization rate and intensive care unit occupancy rate in Metro Manila’s hospitals notched 44 percent and 59 percent, respectively, as of Sunday.

It was also ascertained that the average testing positivity rate as of October 17 was at 9 percent.

While there may be divergence in the figures of the private group OCTA and the Department of Health, both are saying that the nation’s fight against the pandemic is showing small victories.

At this point, we urge the people to help maintain these low numbers by sacrificing some more despite the controlled easing of mobility restrictions in the NCR, from Alert Level 4 to Alert Level 3.

NCR residents can now gradually return to their normal activities in the field of entertainment, religion, family gatherings, cultural pursuits and education.

Let us not stretch these privileges to the limit, and be mindful that the National Capital Region is still under the classification of “moderate risk.” It is better for the public to sacrifice some more rather than exacerbate the risk and court the chances of returning to a surge.
