Uncertain fate

THE congestion at the Philippine Orthopedic Hospital in Quezon City for many years seems to indicate the government’s inexplicable loss of control over the management of the treatment, hospitalization and rehabilitation of patients.

Some 800 to 900 patients troop to the hospital daily and we’ve been told that only half the number are diagnosed for treatment and surgery. The rest will try their luck the following day. Consultation is usually stretched until 7 p.m.

‘The large number of orthopedic injuries nationwide should compel Malacañang to direct the construction of orthopedic hospitals in many provinces.

Aside from hundreds of patients, stretchers and wheelchairs line up or occupy the corridors of the four-story facility. It’s hard to understand the misery and hopelessness, the painful broken limbs and bones of those seeking treatment. Fortunately, the new five-floor Philippine Orthopedic Center next to the hospital is opening soon.

The large number of orthopedic injuries nationwide should compel Malacañang to direct the construction of orthopedic hospitals in many provinces where hapless patients endure and suffer long delays in consultation and treatment, primarily because the orthopedic healthcare operations and programs remain centralized in imperial Manila. This is despite the local devolution of the health care system as provided under the Local Government Code whose main author and sponsor was the late Senate President Nene Pimentel.

I am not sure what the Christian community has gained by glossing over the brutality of the Israeli-Hamas war. Many Christians and Catholics in the country have often pointed to Biblical prophecy in trying to rationalize the slaughter of Palestinian women and children by Israeli bombings and attacks, along with the displacement of more than one million from the Gaza Strip.

The Bible speaks of an unspeakable tribulation and wars that will plague the Middle East with an utterly besieged Israel ultimately emerging victorious.

The death and destruction at Gaza, without doubt, are abhorrent to Our Lord Jesus Christ who is, of course, not recognized by the “chosen people” of God (Israelites) to be the true God and Messiah.

Christ brought comfort, mercy, healing and forgiveness into this world and everyone is welcome to accept Him as his/her Savior and Lord.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s heart is ruled by the power of his own homicidal might and merciless aggression that have overcome any spiritual or moral awakening for humanity’s sake.

Christians should relentlessly beseech Our Lord to seize Netanyahu’s heart and soul so that “he is delivered from the power of darkness and conveyed into the kingdom of the Son” (Colossians 1:13).

More zealous and fearless Christians should help stop the carnage by standing in the gap, particularly at Gaza, so that their presence becomes a powerful and overwhelming force to echo Christ’s eternal truths of hope, compassion, mercy and forgiveness.
