RAYVER Cruz celebrates his birthday on July 20 and the showing of his new movie,  “The Cheating Game” with Julie Anne San Jose, is on July 26, so consider it as his special birthday presentation.

Rayver is seen regularly on “All Out Sundays” and “The Clash.” Now, he plays the lead in “The Cheating Game.” His career really took a turn for the better when he became a Kapuso.

‘And I’m so proud of Julie Anne in this movie. Sobrang galing niya. — Rayver Cruz’

There’s no doubt he and Julie Anne have unmistakable chemistry. You can see this in the videos they post on social media and in their concert last year, “JulieVerse,” where they sweetly professed their love for each other. Their fans are now eager to see them act together on the big screen.

“I enjoyed making the movie kasi doing it is a learning experience for me para maging aware ka how to handle being cheated. When you’re cheated, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. And I’m so proud of Julie Anne in this movie. Sobrang galing niya. She’s good as Maria Clara, pero gugulatin niya kayo rito.”

“The Cheating Game” is the first film produced by GMA Public Affairs since “Family History” which was shown before the pandemic. After this, they have more movies coming up, including a horror flick, a family drama and a sci-fi fantasy.

Here’s praying “The Cheating Game” will be a good buena mano for GMA and moviegoers will really flock to the theaters to watch it on July 26.

Jolo Estrada is all smiles these days. And why not? His first big movie, Regal Entertainment’s endearing romantic comedy, “Seasons,” is doing very well via streaming. It’s number one not only in the local Netflix channel but even in  the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait. And not only that. His performance as Hans, the third wheel in the romance of Lovi Poe as Charlie and Carlo Aquino as Kurt is getting very good, encouraging feedback from viewers.

They say he has a hunky and dynamic screen presence and his acting is most certainly quite impressive for a newcomer.

“I like my role as a guy who’s Lovi’s officemate,” he says. “May gusto ako sa kanya but eventually, I realized that she’s very much in love with Carlo. So I was put in a dilemma: will I continue to pursue her or just give way to nurse a broken heart?”

Jolo is the eldest son of Senator Jinggoy Estrada and his amiable wife Precy. He’s a latebloomer in showbiz as he opted to finish his college studies first before going into acting. He is very thankful to his manager Leo Dominguez and  Regal producer Roselle Monteverde for giving him an opportunity to be part of a a feel-good romantic film like  “Seasons,” which was conceptualized by Lovi and directed by Easy Ferrer. “It’s guaranteed to make you feel romantic and fall in love all over again, so watch na kayo sa Netflix now,” adds Jolo.

We are glad each time a new female director is added to the list of our filmmakers, which is dominated by males. Director Ma-an Dagnalan is given by Vivamax the chance to direct her first film for the numero uno local streaming channel, “Home Service,” that starts streaming on July 14.

She won the best director award last year at Cinemalaya for her first directorial job, “Blue Room,” about innocent young people arrested and tormented by corrupt cops. In 2010, she co-wrote the script of “Layang Bilanggo” about abandoned oldies in a nursing home for Cinema One Originals with her husband Mike Dagnalan directing it. It won best picture.

She submitted a script to Vivamax early this year. “It was approved at ang husband ko sana magdidirek, but Viva wants a female director so I directed it. First time ko to direct an erotic film. It’s about a nursing student, Hershie de Leon as Happy, who works as a masseuse and is exploited by Angelica Cervantes who uses her for cyber sex. I’m glad that all the cast members are very cooperative. They trusted me, lalo sa bed scenes.”

She has no regrets doing a sexy film. “Ang importante, may valid message na i-share sa audience. The message is we should not abuse innocent people.  The working students are struggling to have a good future, so sana tulungan na lang sila kaysa i-exploit at abusuhin, like what happened to Hershie in ‘Home Service’.”
