This early, people are predicting that veteran performers Noel Trinidad and Liza Lorena will win acting awards for their terrific performances in CineKo Productions’ family drama, “Family Matters.”
Noel and Liza give the performance of their lives as an aging couple who wish to remain together in the winter of their lives. They have four adult children in the movie played by Nonie Buencamino, Mylene Dizon, Nikki Valdez and JC Santos. Conflict ensues as the children take turns in caring for their aging parents who wish to be independent.
People are predicting that Noel Trinidad and Liza Lorena will win acting awards for their terrific performances in the family drama.
In the film’s grand press con last December 7, Noel, who is in his 80s, said “Family Matters” may be his last hurrah in filmmaking. Liza, meanwhile, said she plans to continue to act “hanggang kaya ko pang magkabisado ng lines.”
Noel and Liza said they developed a close friendship with all the members of the cast.
“Talagang nagging family kami,” said Noel, who added that Liza and his wife, Lally Laurel, are really close.
“I call her Wifey No. 2, while my wife is Wifey Number 1,” he joked.
Agot Isidro, James Blanco, Ana Luna, Ina Feleo, Ketchup Eusebio, Roxanne Guinoo, and Ian Pangilinan are also in the cast.
“Family Matters” is directed by Nuel Naval, who was also at the helm of the 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival hit “Miracle in Cell No. 7” starring Aga Muhlach.
“Family Matters” is written by Mel Mendoza-Del Rosario, who wrote the screenplay of “Miracle in Cell No. 7,” which is the Filipino adaptation of the Korean box-office hit written by Hwan-kyung Lee.
It is the only family drama in this year’s MMFF and will open in theaters on December 25.

It was a different kind of reunion when “Maalaala Mo Kaya” (MMK) host Charo Santos had a kumustahan with the former subjects of the drama anthology.
The award-winning actress and host had heart-to-heart conversations with thirty-one letter senders in a two-hour special titled “MMK Grand Kumustahan,” which was aired last Friday, December 9 on ABS-CBN’s YouTube channel and Facebook page and iWantTFC.
It was a bittersweet reunion as the program will be ending after more than three decades of chronicling the lives and lessons of Filipinos. From feel-good chronicles to societal narratives, various letter senders talk about how “MMK” changed their lives and share life updates after their stories got featured on the program.
Charo was joined by actress Dimples Romana as they revisited some of the “MMK” episodes, including “Garapon” starring Carlo Aquino and Jaclyn Jose, “Regalo” with Vilma Santos-Recto and Maja Salvador, “Courageous Catie” with Shaina Magdayao and JC de Vera, and “Balsa” with Zanjoe Marudo.
