‘The tragic face of these endless profound losses has otherwise been replaced in the media by emotional homecomings of husbands and sons vacationing from overseas combat tours from the Middle East, many of whom would never be seen alive again.’
THE bombing by the US of several nuclear sites in Iran and the threats of vicious reprisals against Israel and the US have triggered a surge in oil prices anew, which hopefully will be contained.
Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian is calling on Malacanang to release emergency aid to the highly vulnerable public transport workers.
The DOTr has reportedly activated a subsidy fund to cushion the expected impact of mounting oil prices on the public transport sector. This is in coordination with the Land Transportation and Franchising Board (LTFRB).
Already, a price hike of P2 to P4 per liter in gasoline is set for this week. DOTr spokesman Mon Ilagan said the subsidy can cover up to a P5 hike in gas prices, which should be reassessed if the situation turns into a global conflict
Some 14,000 US forces are being deployed to the Middle East in anticipation of retaliatory attacks by Islamic forces in the region. Washington is aware of the human costs to the military of sending many of its soldiers to their deaths.
The tragic face of these endless profound losses has otherwise been replaced in the media by emotional homecomings of husbands and sons vacationing from overseas combat tours from the Middle East, many of whom would never be seen alive again. Actual videos of funeral services have been prohibited by the Pentagon from being shown publicly in the media.
Former US President George Bush will be remembered in modern history for sending more than 3,000 young Americans to their deaths in the Iraq War and other deadly forays in Syria, Lebanon and Afghanistan. His hunt for the non-existent weapons of mass destruction allegedly stored by Saddam Hussein also legitimized the deaths of two thousand Iraqi soldiers and a thousand innocent women and children
President Joe Biden’s withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan after 20 years mainly came from 85% of the polled Americans. It was another dark testament of failed American intervention in a foreign country, especially with a history and culture hostile to the US.
Biden knew the cruel fate that awaited US forces on Afghan soil, rapidly being taken over by the brutal Taliban forces. Indeed, it was a huge relief for thousands of American families who only cared about seeing their loved ones alive and well once again. And giving up a war not worth fighting for.

From Watchman Nee (from the book “Smith Wigglesworth and Other Generals of God” by Richard Riordan): “If I put a dollar bill between the pages of a magazine and then burn the magazine, where is the dollar bill? It has gone the same way as the magazine to ashes. When one goes, the other goes, too. Their history has become one. But, just as effectively, God has put us in Christ. What happened to Him also happened to us. All the experiences He met, we, too, have met in Him.
“Our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away, that no one should no longer be in bondage to sin (Romans 6:6).”
“That is not an exhortation to struggle. That is history – our history written in Christ before we were born. Do you believe that? It is true! Our crucifixion with Christ is a glorious historical fact. Our deliverance from sin is based not on what we can do, not even on what God is going to do for us, but on what He has already done for us in Christ.”
“When that fact dawns on us, and we rest back on it, then we have found the secret of a holy life.”
