She admitted that at first, there were opinions that her name was “mature sounding.”
BARBARA MIGUEL
Barbara Miguel became emotional when she was talking about her former management company, GMA Artist Center.
She recalled how, especially before the pandemic, Artist Center took care of her career and gave her her name.
“Minsan nasasaktan ako pag feeling ng bang tao, wala akont respect sa family ko, which is my GMA family. That’s not true. Malaki ang naibigay nila sa career ko and sila tung tuna nagtiwala sa akin. At sila nagpangalan sa akin na Barbara Miguel.”
Barbara was at the launch of new management company, Marikit, where she is one of the first artists. The grand launch was held at the Cafe Ilang Ilang of the Manila Hotel last January 24.
The 18-year-old actress, an award-winner at an early age, denied that there is any bad blood between her and her former management. She has nothing but good words for Sparkle and said she continues to have her doors open to GMA – and all other productions and networks – who wishes to work with her.

It is interesting how Barbara got her showbiz appellation.
“It started kay Jillian Ward’s Christmas serve, my first show on GMA. Barbara ‘yung name ng character ko, a contravida role. Direk Maryo delos Reyes saw me and nun nag audition ako sa ‘Munting Heredera,’ ang nakalagay sa [name tag] is Barbara so they were like, ok, Barbara fits you so well, so I think the GMA heads, sina Ma’am Lilybeth, they said, ok, Barbara Miguel,” she related.
She admitted that at first, there were opinions that her name was “mature sounding.”
“Then again, it suits me now. When you hear Barbara Miguel, the impact is different,” she said.
“I’m super happy kasi sila nagbigay ng name ko.”
Born Renerich Marl Ocon Jovenier in Davao, Barbara is an internationally-awarded dramatic actress. She received the Best Actress trophy in the 2013 Harlem International Film Festival for the film “Nuwebe” in 2013, the Best Supporting Actress recognition at the Asean International Film Festival Awards in 2019 and also has a best child actress trophy from Famas Awards.
Aside from Barbara, the Marikit Artist Management currently has Charles Angeles, 18; Angelika Santiago, 19; Jeremy Luis, 25; Kyle Ocampo, 17; and the sing and dance group Masculados, composed of Robin Robes, Enrico Molar, Nico Cordova, Orlando Sol, David Carell, and Richard Yumul, in its stable.
Marikit’s aim is to be known as having the most talented stars from the whole archipelago. They boasts of truly talented artists who embody unique Filipino looks.
