Aljur is sorry

GLAIZA de Castro is known for playing strong women but she now plays a totally different character in “Nagbabagang Luha,” an adaptation of the movie directed by Ishmael Bernal in 1988.

“Yes, nasanay ako in playing strong characters,” she says. “Ito, walang bahid at all ng pagiging fierce or pagiging mataray at lagi akong umiiyak so nahihirapan ako. She will do everything for her family. As Maita kasi, naging nanay ako ni Cielo, played by Claire Castro, after iniwan kami ng nanay namin, si Jaclyn Jose at mapatay ang tatay namin, played by Allan Paule. Then inagaw niya ang mister ko, si Rayver Cruz.”

What would she do if what happened to her character, Maita, will also happen to her in real life? “Naku, hindi ko siguro kakayanin ‘yung lokohin ka ng asawa mo, lalo na kung ang nag-cheat sayo, kapatid mo pa. It’d be really more frustrating, more sad kapag malapit na kamag-anak ang gumawa nun sayo. That’s the difference of ‘Nagbabagang Luha’ from other stories about infidelity kasi dito, sister niya ang gumawa noon sa kanya, inagaw ang husband niya, kaya mas masakit.”

She’s officially engaged to her Irish boyfriend David Rainey. Have they fixed a date for their wedding?

“No definite plans yet for marriage, kasi let’s face it, very challenging ang pandemic ngayon lalo na sa pagta-travel. Mahal ang relationship namin, kasi maraming travels na involved.

We are hoping the restrictions will ease.”

Will their wedding be here or in Ireland?

“Ideally, gusto ko dito ang wedding namin. Kasi ang laki ng family ko. Hindi ko sila kayang dalhin lahat sa Ireland. Sila sampu lang sa family. So when it comes to logistics, mas practical to do it here so I can bring them around para ma-experience nila ang Filipino culture.”

‘Gusto kong humingi ng pasensya sa kanya at pati sa lahat ng mga ibang babaeng nadadamay. — Aljur Abrenica’

Aljur Abrenica is now managed by Leo Dominguez who hosted a solo Zoom press con just for him.

It’s very brave of Leo to handle him because we all know Aljur burned his bridges when he resigned from GMA 7 while he still had a contract with them and when he antagonized people from ABS-CBN because of his remarks when its franchise was not renewed.

It’s good Viva signed him up for three movies, so at least, he has work.

His first movie with Viva is the sexy drama, “Nerisa,” where he does daring love scenes for the first time. Former beauty queen Cindy Miranda plays the title role of “Nerisa,” which is directed by Law Fajardo. There are many underwater scenes as they shot on location in Alabat Island in Quezon.

“We had to take diving lessons before shooting started,” said Aljur. “The love scenes are daring but it’s not just all baring as we were also required to do heavy dramatic scenes.

Bilib ako kay Cindy, she’s a newcomer pero magaling siya. Nag-usap muna kami before we shot the love scenes. I asked her how far she’s willing to go. Naging open kami sa isa’t isa. Ginawa namin ang required sa amin as actors. Pero ako siempre, I tried to protect her also bilang respeto sa kanya at sa pagkababae niya.”

It’s said they really got close while shooting in Quezon so it’s not surprising that Cindy was accused to be the third party in the break-up of his marriage to Kylie Padilla. What can he say about this?

“I felt sorry for her. Gusto kong humingi ng pasensya sa kanya at pati sa lahat ng mga ibang babaeng nadadamay. Kung sinu-sino kasi ang itinuturo nila. They certainly don’t deserve it.”

That’s because he does not want to talk about the real reasons of their breakup.

“Alam kong marami kayong gustong itanong pero huwag muna ngayon dahil I’m not yet ready,” he said. “In time po, masasagot ko rin ‘yan. Alam kong concerned kayo sa akin.

Pagdating ng panahon, maayos din po lahat ng ito. Basta as of now, I choose to be happy, with my career and even with my family.”

“Nerisa” is written by the much respected screenwriter Ricky Lee. You can start watching it on July 30 on kktx.ph, iWantTFC, and TFC IPTV for only P249 and also on Vivamax.
