‘No one could explain how a nurse almost single-handedly saved babies from a fire that broke out at the Philippine General Hospital recently.’
FORMER senator Antonio Trillanes came down hard on former senate president
Juan Ponce Enrile, who virtually accused the former of deliberately bypassing authorities in his backchannel talks on the South China Sea stand-off. Trillanes should be more prudent with a man who cannot be denied his place in history. Most people had watched in awe as an aging Enrile skillfully presided over the impeachment of SC Chief Justice Renato Corona, his legal prowess in contending with lawyers of both sides shinning through like never before. But he has never come to terms with his role in the brutal martial regime when he was its chief implementor as defense minister, and in the series of military coup tries during the Cory administration that killed about 300 people, including innocent bystanders. Enrile’s mind knows that his place in history cannot be sealed this way.

No one could explain how a nurse almost single-handedly saved babies from a fire that broke out at the Philippine General Hospital recently. When word got to her, Kathrina Bianca Macababbad, a nurse at the neonatal intensive care unit, wasted no time and immediately prepared the babies, as well as the medical equipment, for evacuation.
“Ventilator dependent ang lima sa anim na patients ko,” she wrote on her FB post.
“Nakakaiyak na habang bitbit ko ‘yung mga kayang huminga mag-isa, maiiwan ‘yung mga naka-intubate at ventilator.”
After reaching the open area at the lobby, Kathrina and her colleague, Jomar Mallari, mustered the courage to go back to the 4th floor NICU to save the babies on ventilator. She had to race to the fourth floor five times while the fire raged on the 3rd floor.
“Thank you, Lord, for the unwavering strength and courage!!! Di ko alam kung saan nanggaling iyon pero wala akong naramdamang takot sa dibdib ko,” Kathrina shared on FB.
She did not know how she pulled it off unbelievably without any fear or doubt because the strange but miraculous power that had propelled her did not come from within.
Our Lord and God, the Creator of the universe, who has set the sun and the stars in their place, does not deliver on luck. All the 35 babies at the NICU, including the critical and intubated, were saved.
The great evangelist Reinhard Bonnke wrote: “When Christ came He introduced the activity of God the Holy Spirit into our mundane affairs. It is a new resource, not physical power, like water, wind or nuclear energy which are all part of the natural scene. This is the power of a world with laws far above the laws of nature.”
