Sex still sells

‘Let’s face it, sexy flicks are much easier and cheaper to make in this season of the pandemic.’

SUNSHINE Guimary is grinning from ear to ear these days. And why not? Her sexy comedy and launching flick, “Kaka,” has been the number one movie in the streaming channel VivaMax since it opened on May 28. This can only mean that sex still sells.

We really thought viewers are no longer interested to watch sex films since pornographic flicks are now so easily available on the internet, and for free at that. Obviously, some folks are still willing to pay for the movie of a new local sexy star like Sunshine who is really oozing with sex appeal on screen.

Viva sent us the link when they premiered the movie so we got to watch it. In all fairness to Sunshine, this might be her very first acting job but she doesn’t act like a newbie. She’s in almost every scene, from beginning to end, and she acquitted herself well in the acting department, proving she’s not just a sexy body.

And she is really daring. The opening scene alone shows her pleasuring herself in bed, first with her fingers, then with a vibrator. She’s really well-endowed and top heavy and she’s not at all afraid to display them. She also has a knack for comedy and is able to hold her own against more seasoned co-stars like Gina Pareño (a natural scene-stealer who plays her lola), Rosanna Roces (who plays her mom), and Jerald Napoles (her leading man).

We won’t be surprised if Sunshine would soon have a new project. And we are not surprised that Viva is producing yet another skin flick introducing beauty queen Cindy Miranda in “Nerissa,” which is not a comedy like “Kaka” since it is a suspense-thriller written by Ricky Lee.

As of now, VivaMax is no doubt the busiest streaming outlet as they are releasing a new local movie almost every week. Currently shown is “Ang Babaeng Walang Pakiramdam” starring Kim Molina, to be quickly followed by “Gluta” starring Ella Cruz.

Obviously, other streaming channels have recognized the attraction of sexy flicks, which is why Dondon Monteverde’s Upstream.ph is releasing their first original movie, “A Girl + A Boy,” that stars total newcomers Alexa Miro and Rob Gomez who don’t have any reluctance in taking their clothes off.

Let’s face it, sexy flicks are much easier and cheaper to make in this season of the pandemic. All you have to do is get new stars who won’t charge high talent fees. The important thing is that they look good on screen and are willing to take their clothes off at the drop of a hat. For producers now to earn money in streaming channels and not in actual theaters, the key is to keep your production cost as low as possible so you can get a return on your investment. So your best bet is surely to do a cheap sexy flick that a fast working director can finish in a week’s time or even less.

Wedding bells have been ringing steadily throughout the first half of this year. So many showbiz denizens have decided to walk down the aisle. Among those who have tied the knot are Alex Gonzaga and Mikee Morada who initially hid their November 2020 wedding from the public, Rocco Nacino and athlete Melissa Gohing, and Lovely Abella and Benj Manalo.

Gwen Zamora and Anthony Semerad, who already have a child, exchanged I do’s in France in February.

In March, Empress Shuck finally faced the altar with the father of her child, Vino Guingona; Sam Pinto (now preggy) married David Semerad (so she and Gwen Zamora are now mag-bilas); Beth Tamayo had a second wedding in the USA, this time with Adam Hutchinson (she was previously married to a Chinese guy); PBB discovery Dione Monsanto tied the knot with Ryan Stalder in Switzerland; and “Starstruck” discovery Dion Ignacio married Aileen Sison (they already have a baby).

In April, Luis Manzano and Jessy Mendiola admitted in public that they’re already married and had their wedding on February 21 yet.

In May, “Star Circle Quest” discovery Melissa Ricks and Michael Macatangay had a simple wedding in the USA. And now, it’s June and a certified June bride is Bianca King who married Ralph Wintle in Australia. Ralph is the brother of Ben Wintle, the husband of Iza Calzado. So Iza and Bianca are now also mag-bilas. Iza and Ben are based here in Manila while Bianca and Ralph are based in Australia.

More weddings are coming soon. Carla Abellana and Tom Rodriguez are scheduled to exchange I do’s in a church in Tagaytay in October. Kris Bernal has announced that, come September, she will finally have her wedding with Perry Choi that is supposed to take place this month of June but had to be postponed due to time constraints.

As of now, also officially engaged are Ara Mina and David Almarinez, Ellen Adarna and Derek Ramsay. Arci Munoz and JM de Guzman also announced that they’re engaged then said later it’s just a prank and it backfired of them as they were severely bashed in the internet for trying to fool the people. As for Ellen and Derek, we notice that the negative observations of some citizens indicate that their wedding would never take place. Someone even wrote: “Hindi matutuloy ‘yan. Matatauhan ‘yan bago mangyari ang kasal nila.”
