‘Edu has no intentions of calling his son’s attention about the protest.’
JOHN Lloyd Cruz turned 34 years old last June 24 while his son Elias Modesto turned 2 years old on June 26. Lloydie has been in Cebu since the lockdown started. He has started shooting a new movie, “Servando Magdamag,” in February for Director Lav Diaz, who directed him before in “Ang Babaeng Humayo” where he played a gay role.
“Servando Magdamag” is based on a Palanca award-winning story written by Ricky Lee. Then the lockdown happened so they don’t know yet as to when they’ll resume shooting the film.
Before this, he appeared in a cameo role as the boyfriend of leper Meryll Soriano in “Culion,” which was a dismal artistic and commercial flop in the last Metro Manila Film Festival. He also did an Instagram live chat with Bea Alonzo, his perennial partner in movies and teleseryes.
Last year, when Elias celebrated his first birthday, Lloydie and the boy’s mom, Ellen Adarna, were still together in the celebration. He and Ellen met while working together in the sitcom “Home Sweetie Home.” They started living together in 2016 and parted ways last year.
Both chose to keep quiet on the reason why they parted ways, but folks felt sad that they readily proved all the negative predictions about their relationship to be true. When they were just starting, everyone said: “Hindi naman magtatagal ‘yan.” Well, at the least, the relationship lasted for three years.

Angel Locsin got bashed when photos of her showing her gaining so much excess weight appeared on various social media platforms. Some folks defended her saying they don’t care as everyone knows she has a heart of gold always ready to help the needy, even calling her the real Darna.
As one avid supporter wrote: “Angel Locsin is the real-life Darna, hindi niya kailangan ng papuri dahil ang mas importante sa kanya ay ang makatulong sa kapwa.”
Some nasty bashers then posted her old photo with her sporting her shapely figure when she did “Darna” on GMA-7 15 years ago, with the caption, “Lipad, Darna, Lipad.” Then they posted a graphic photo illustration of her as a fat Darna with no waistline, saying “Lapad, Darna, Lapad.”
Angel herself chose not to react to the comments about her missing waistline and her fans say it’s the best reaction to all the body shaming she got: “Deadma na lang.”

Edu Manzano’s younger son, Enzo, with former model Rina Samson (they also have a daughter, Addy) surprised a lot of folks when he staged a protest against the anti-terrorism bill a few days ago in front of the Philippine Consulate in New York all by himself.
He carried a big placard saying, in all caps, “THE PHILIPPINE GOVERNMENT IS DESTROYING MY COUNTRY’S DEMOCRACY! HEAR US NOW (BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE).”
Did Enzo inform Papa Edu about the solo protest?
“No,” said the veteran actor. “But ever since, I’ve been very liberal and always encouraged my kids to speak up and express themselves. Nakita ko na lang ang photos sa social media ng ginawa niya. He did the protest for three days and three hours each day siyang nakatayo roon.”
Edu has no intentions of calling his son’s attention about the protest. “He’s of age and I will never interfere if he wants to express his own feelings about our country. He took up political science and he even made a video about the history of the EDSA revolution, so may political inclination talaga siya. All of my kids are college graduates and they’re very responsible citizens who can make their own decisions. I’m proud of them.”
Well, Edu has reason to be proud. While other young people engage in superficial things like bashing people needlessly in social media, Enzo is a socially aware youth who wants to impart his valid opinion on the problems happening around them, just like Janine Gutierrez, daughter of Lotlot de Leon and Ramon Christopher who is also, like Enzo, so outspoken about the anti-terrorism bill.
