‘[I]t could be because Andrea accepted the offer of GMA’
BOTH Andrea Torres and Derek Ramsay admit that they have called it quits after only a little over a year of going steady.
Both also say they would rather not share with the public the reason for their breakup. How sad because, prior to this, Andrea is already often seen in Derek’s newly completed home and they’ve already been talking about facing the altar.
Now, Andrea has unfollowed Derek’s social media account and also erased all their photos together from her own Instagram account, as if she wants to get rid of all the memories that will remind her of the romance with him that bloomed while they were taping the series “The Better Woman.”
This is obviously something very recent as they were still together in the Kapuso Network Christmas Station ID that GMA just started airing. It is not yet clear what caused the breakup but someone says it could be because Andrea accepted the offer of GMA to be the replacement of Megan Young as the second wife of Dennis Trillo in “Legal Wives” when she and Derek were supposed to be paired anew in a series titled “Sanggang Dikit.”
On top of this, Andrea will be on lock-in taping “Legal Wives” in a distant location and that means she will be gone for three long weeks. Is it true Derek was against this but Andrea was adamant in accepting her role as she really wants to go back to work and also to get the chance to work with Dennis Trillo?
Lots of folks say “sayang naman,” since they seemed so serious and sincere when they were professing their love for each other on camera just a couple of weeks ago in the show “Mars Pa More.”
They even have their own common YouTube vlog called “AnDrek Vlogs” where they post their latest stories. It has already gained about 300,000 faithful subscribers. Also, both their respective families have met each other and expressed their warm approval of the relationship. That’s why so many quarters are now hoping against hope that they will still be able to patch things up, thresh things out, save their relationship, and reconcile eventually.

Kris Bernal is a “Starstruck” winner in 2006 but she’s now doing a show with TV5 after her contract with GMA-7 expired and it was not renewed.
“Yes, I’m now a freelancer so puede na akong magtrabaho sa ibang stations,” she said at the Zoom press con for her new show, “Ate ng Ate Ko,” a psychological drama produced by Archangel Media for TV5 and Cignal Entertainment. She stars with Jake Cuenca, Joem Bascon and Isabelle de Leon. It will start airing this Monday, November 23, at 9:30 p.m.
“Nagpaalam naman ako sa GMA bosses na I will work with TV5 at pumayag naman sila,” she added. “I didn’t burn bridges with them kasi nakakapag-guest pa rin ako sa GMA shows like ‘All Out Sundays’ and ‘Wish Ko Lang.’ Sayang naman itong ‘Ate ng Ate Ko’ kasi for me, work is work, kaysa naman nakatengga lang ako sa bahay.”
And she feels so blessed playing a very challenging role in “Ate ng Ate Ko.”
“I play Riki, may sister ako, si Isabelle as Yumi, pero hindi kami magkasundo, we’re always fighting. Our parents and I figured in a car crash. They died, but I survived, kaya lang, my brain is affected at nagkaroon ako ng dissociative fugue, an ailment kunsaan bumalik ako sa pagiging 9 years old na bata with only her memories as a child remaining in her. I researched a lot to prepare for my role to understand the symptoms, the treatment. Mahirap siya kasi I want the people to sympathize with my character.”

Maricel Laxa plays Faith, the family matriarch in TV5’s Christmas series, “Paano ang Pasko?” Did she have second thoughts playing mother to Julia Clarete, Beauty Gonzalez and Devon Seron in the story?
“No, kasi in real life, mother naman talaga ako to five kids,” she said. “Golden girl na ako and I also played the mother of Kathleen Bernardo last year in the movie, ‘Hello, Love, Goodbye.’ At saka ang ganda ng role ko in ‘Paano ang Pasko?’ at ng story about a family na nagkahiwalay then nagkaroon ng reunion habang may pandemic in time for the Christmas season.”
Maricel turned 50 years old last February 25. We remember when she just arrived from the States in 1989, still a teenager, and Mother Lily Monteverde quickly got her and cast her in several movies, mostly comedies. She later married Anthony Pangilinan and their five children are Ella, Donny (now also in showbiz), Hannah, Benjamin, and Solana. She went back to school and got a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science at UP Manila and a master’s degree in family life at UP Diliman.
So how is it working with the huge cast of “Paano ang Pasko?” which they do on lock in taping in San Pablo City?
“It is both a joy and a privilege to be part of this great project with such an amazing set of people, my co-stars, directors and the staff,” she said. “I consider it a huge blessing to be able to get to work during this time of the pandemic na maraming walang trabaho.
Although first time ko to be away from my husband and kids for such a long time. I hope you all get to see and enjoy this great family drama about life, love, acceptance that’s perfect for the coming Christmas season.”
