‘Sen. Riza Hontiveros has pointed out that with their huge budgets (P856 million for the PNP and P500 million for the PDEA), both agencies failed in their intelligence gathering.’
THE PNP finally spoke up a day after the alleged misencounter between its operatives and PDEA agents. By then, PDEA chief Wilkins Villanueva has made it known their men were conducting a legitimate operation. The PNP has since declared that it was similarly engaged in a legitimate operation. Would it be fair to determine each side’s credibility if we go by the records of the PNP and PDEA on drug operations since President Duterte took office?
EJKs have run to more than 15,000 based on figures from local and international human rights groups, with about 80% of them highly questionable reports that strongly indicated murder and street executions by PNP drug units. PDEA, the leading agency in the country’s drug campaign, has stepped aside to allow the PNP to spearhead the President’s signature drug war with orders, no doubt, from Malacanang.
The President has rejected a joint inquiry proposed by the PDEA and the PNP and directed the NBI to conduct a thorough probe on the bloody incident.
Sen. Riza Hontiveros has pointed out that with their huge budgets (P856 million for the PNP and P500 million for the PDEA), both agencies failed in their intelligence gathering. A devastating failure.

The EDSA celebration this year is rife with uncertainties to our freedom and the threat of havoc from tyranny. Let us allow Paul Morgan Tripp to share his social and liberating social perspective. “We will never get the freedom and long-term satisfaction we thought self-rule would bring. Ignoring God is never a path to blessing. There are two lies that tempt each of us, somehow, some way. They are the lies that fueled the disastrous choice of Adam and Eve in that moment of temptation in the garden. Yes, it is true, these lies have as much power as they did then. The first is the lie of autonomy. This lie says that you are an independent human being with the right to live as you wish, Now, if you’re a parent, you know that your children fall into embracing that lie. That’s why they don’t hunger for more of your correction and don’t esteem your authority. Our children want to believe that their lives belong to them and that they are the only authority that they need. But, we don’t belong to ourselves.” (More next time.)
