A mouthful on beauty pageants

‘Does everyone need to look at women’s nubile bodies to be entertained, and for men, to inspire their untiring lusts?’

THE eminent UP professor and political analyst Ms. Clarita Carlos has thrown a mouthful against beauty contests, notably the recent Miss Universe pageant in the United States.

The world relishes how women paraded in their literally almost naked splendor at beauty pageants for more than a century.

The 2021 Miss Universe was a major distraction from the global COVID crisis that also brought large revenues to the floundering entertainment and broadcast industries worldwide. But it seemed unfit at this time in a broken world crying for protection, healing and contentment.

Does everyone need to look at women’s nubile bodies to be entertained, and for men, to inspire their untiring lusts? On her FB post, Prof. Carlos laments, “Can we just please stop joining these contests where contestants declare the most inane advocacies, in memorized script, to demonstrate that they love the earth? Can we not have a contest where women need not flail their naked coca-cola bodies with outrageous hip sways, before the whole world? Can we instead search for the ones, regardless of physical endowments, who have done the kindest and the most compassionate acts towards the vulnerable among us?”

Many people of India have given up on their gods — about ten thousand of them — as bulldozers scooped them up, like garbage to be thrown away. There has been a widespread disappointment over statues and carved images that included birds and animals which were unable, despite the agonizing prayers, to stop the huge number of COVID deaths. The Bible-believing countries seem quite better off and prayers for healing to our loving and powerful God have been answered more often than before.

In his book Mighty Manifestations, Reinhard Bonnke writes: “The present expansion of churches which allow the Holy Spirit free expression is ‘the greatest religious phenomenon of our age,’ as Time Magazine stated in 1971 — and that was only at the beginning of the greatest thrust. Living in this world is different since Jesus came. There is a new resource.

The world of physical law has been impacted by the spiritual laws of the world to come. The results are with us. The Gospels introduce it and the Acts of the Apostles first reports men and women accepting it. The Holy Spirit is God in action. Whenever there are supernatural operations they are by the Spirit, All divine manifestations are always by the Spirit. When God moved on the world in the beginning it was by His Spirit. ‘The Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.’ (Gen 1:2)”

“The only Spirit Jesus promised us is the miracle Spirit, the Holy Spirit. There is no non-miracle Holy Spirit. To claim to possess the Holy Spirit and deny the very work which has always distinguished Him can only grieve Him. He is it is who began with the supreme physical wonder of creating th world. He does not change His nature. The Holy Spirit who made the world supernaturally should have no difficulty in continuing supernaturally.”
