JUSTICE Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla has taken a 10-day “wellness leave,” the department announced yesterday.
“Due to personal reasons, the Secretary of Justice will be taking a wellness leave for 10 days, effective immediately,” the DOJ said in a statement.
Remulla was supposed to deliver a message yesterday morning at the Diamond Hotel in Manila for the DOJ-PNP Training Program for Law Enforcement Officers in the National Capital Region.
Instead, Undersecretary Raul Vasquez delivered the statement on Remulla’s behalf.
In a Viber message, Remulla said Vasquez will be the OIC of the DOJ while he is on leave.
Remulla underwent a medical checkup last week and was supposed to return to work last Thursday but took the rest of the week off.
The DOJ said Remulla’s absence will not affect its day-to-day operations.
“We want to assure the public that the DOJ remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is served.
Our officials and employees will continue to work diligently and fulfill their respective responsibilities to ensure that the operations of our department run smoothly during the Secretary’s absence,” it said.
“Rest assured that the DOJ will continue to carry out its vital functions and responsibilities, including the protection of the rights of every Filipino citizen, without any interruption,” it added.
At the same time, the department asked the public to respect Remulla’s privacy during his wellness leave.
“We look forward to the Secretary’s return and his continued service to the DOJ and the Filipino people,” it said.
