PRESIDENT Marcos Jr has designated the military’s operations chief as commander of the AFP Visayas Command (Viscom) which is leading the campaign against threat groups in the entire Visayas.
Maj. Gen. Fernando Reyeg, AFP deputy chief of staff for operations, assumed command of Viscom yesterday during rites held at the Viscom headquarters in Cebu City. He was promoted to the next higher rank also lieutenant general.
Armed Forces chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr, who presided over the turnover ceremony, ordered Reyeg to neutralize members of communist New People’s Army remaining in the Visayas.
Brawner also led the donning of the new rank of Reyeg, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1991.
Reyeg’s replacement as AFP deputy chief of staff for operations has not been named.
Reyeg has occupied other key posts, including as AFP assistant deputy chief of staff for education, training, and doctrine; commander of the Joint Task Force Basilan; commander of the 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion; chief of staff of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division; and chief of unified command staff of the Western Mindanao Command.
Brawner said the military was able to “accomplish a lot” with Reyeg as the AFP deputy chief of staff for operations.
“Being the commander of Viscom, he is now tasked to neutralize the remaining forces of the CTG (communist terrorist group) and to ensure the territorial integrity of our territory here in the Visayas,” said Brawner.
