THE city government of Makati yesterday said it will pursue all legal remedies, including an appeal, after the Supreme Court ruled that the Fort Bonifacio Military Reservation, including the Bonifacio Global City, belongs to Taguig city.
This even as Makati City Legal Officer Michael Camina said they have yet to receive an official copy of the ruling rendered by the SC’s Third Division that put an end to the territorial dispute between Makati and Taguig dating back to the 1990s.
“At this point, we just want to reiterate that the City will continue to protect its geographical integrity and pursue all available legal remedies for the best interest of the Makatizens to ensure that this is realized,” Camina said.
He said once they get a copy of the SC ruling, his office will come out with a more detailed statement on the issue.
“The City Government of Makati has not yet received the official copy of the supposed decision. We will give our statement on the issue at the appropriate time,” Camina added.
The SC ruling penned by Associate Justice Ricardo Rosario said that “the contested areas based on historical, documentary and testimonial evidence, indeed fall within the territorial jurisdiction of Taguig.”
It also “enjoined” Makati City from exercising jurisdiction over the area, including making improvements on or treating it as part of its territory.
The SC also ordered Makati to pay the cost of the suit.
