TWO overstaying Chinese facing rape charges have been taken into custody by the Bureau of Immigration.

In a statement yesterday, Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco said Liu Yong, 28, and Sun Laizheng, 35, have been arrested by the police based on a rape complaint.

“We received a coordination letter from PNP Pasay City regarding Liu and Sun,” Tansingco said.

BI records showed Liu and Sun have been in the country since 2018 and 2019, respectively.

Aside from the rape case, the two were also charged for violating the conditions and limitations of their stay as non-immigrants and for posing a clear and present danger to public welfare.

“They are a threat to our women and children and there is no place for these kinds of foreigners in our land. Rest assured that the BI is in close coordination with other law enforcement agencies in advocating for a safer community for the Filipinos,” Tansingco said.

The BI will retain custody of the two while the criminal raps against them are being tried.

They are currently detained at the BI warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, Taguig City.
