ELEVEN policemen from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), including two officers, were ordered relieved from their posts after they were charged by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for the disappearance of four “sabungeros” or cockfight enthusiasts.

The policemen ordered relieved by acting NCRPO director Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo was led by Lt. Col. Ryan Orapa, the erstwhile chief of the NCRPO’s Drug Enforcement Unit.

Also relieved were Orapas’ men, identified as Lt. Jesus Menez; Staff Sergeants Ronald Lanaria, Ronald Montibon, Troy Paragas, Roy Pioquinito, and Robert Raz Jr; and Corporals Christal Rosita, Denar Roda, Alric Natividad, and Ruscel Solomon.

The 11 policemen, along with four police assets, were charged with kidnapping, serious illegal detention, and violation of the Anti-Enforced or Involuntary Disappearance Act by the NBI last week for the disappearance of siblings Gio and Mico Mateo, Garry Matreo Jr. and Ronal Anonuevo in Cavite in April last year.

Estomo placed the 11 policemen under the restrictive custody of the NCRPO’s Regional Headquarters Support Unit effective last Saturday.

Estomo assured the public that the NCRPO is not going to tolerate the wrongdoing of its men and guaranteed their cooperation in the investigation.

“Rest assured that we will cooperate and will not condone any form of lawlessness committed by our men regardless of rank and designation should it be established following due investigation by competent authorities,” Estomo said in a statement yesterday.

In an earlier statement, Estomo said he respects the action of the NBI in filing the charges against the NCRPO personnel.

He has requested the NBI to provide a copy of the case document which he said will be used as basis in pursuing administrative charges against the involved policemen.
