Next month, several walls along the 20-plus kilometer-stretch of Edsa will feature murals of old-style movie posters as the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) counts down to the 50th year of the annual Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

The special MMFF classic murals is to be painted by at least 40 students from iAcademy, which has partnered with MMDA for the special project.

Under the partnership, iAcademy students will paint the murals featuring some MMFF film posters from the past 50 years, providing the audience with a colorful and nostalgic art display, along EDSA.

MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Don Artes, who led the MOU signing ceremony on Thursday afternoon, was grateful to iAcademy for their support of the agency, which will not just beautify the walls along EDSA through the students’ artwork but also help promote the MMFF 50th edition under the theme “Sine-Sigla sa Singkwenta.”

“We will make EDSA nostalgic through murals of hand-painted movie posters to celebrate the rich history of MMFF,” said Artes, citing that the agency is contacting hand-painted movie poster artists to collaborate with the iAcademy students.

One of the proposed locations for the murals is along EDSA, from Buendia to Ayala, which is approximately 653 meters in length.

Meanwhile, iAcademy chief operating officer Raquel Wong expressed gratitude for the trust of the MMDA, citing that the program “symbolizes our shared commitment and uses creativity to enhance our public spaces. The artworks of our students will showcase not only their skills but the Filipino life, community, and creativity.”

“We are excited to show that these artworks will inspire and remind everyone of the power of creative collaboration in shaping our urban environment,” said Wong.

The MMDA has previously partnered with iAcademy, together with Boysen on a mural painting activity with the theme focused on road safety.
