American singer-songwriter Danny Lynch, who sang a song written by a Filipino in a recent YouTube upload, is one gifted musician who simultaneously sings, plays the guitar, and does drumming with his feet. He uses his right foot for the kick drum, and the left for the snare.
“Doing it altogether feels like a good workout and it gives me a certain sense of rhythm and timing,” said Danny.
Lynch performs with lead guitarist Kevin Joela under the name Danny Lynch Project. Last June 11, they uploaded their delightful take of a song called “Crossroads,” written by London-based Filipino songwriter Erasmo “Rusty” Mallillin.
The Pennsylvania pride got linked to an online community of Filipino talents and heard the composition of Mallillin, who runs a talent management and events company called ErasmoStar that promotes Filipino performers and selected foreign acts.
“Crossroads” has the classic, melodic, and studio-driven ‘80s feel anchored on Lynch’s full-bodied vocals and Joela’s high-recall guitar riffs. The lyrics cut through as inspirational.
“When I heard the song, I immediately liked its vibe and message so all we had to do was bring in our personality into it,” implied Lynch.
The Danny Lynch Project’s unique musical approach allows them to achieve that full band sound through strong originals like “Broken Guitar,” “Never Give Up On Us,” and “Gravity” as well as competent covers of The Doors’ “Love Me Two Times,” Wayne Cochran’s “Last Kiss,” and Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues.”
The duo can likewise deliver brilliant renditions of relatively new songs like A Great Big World’s 2013-release “Say Something.”
“It’s an honor for me to have my composition interpreted by a talented artist like Danny,” expressed Mallillin, who is a brother to the late Jun Mallillin who penned the classic OPMs “Bakit Labis Kitang Mahal” and “Dahil Mahal Kita.”
Lynch, who is set to sing a duet with Filipino bossa nova artist Marvin Velasquez, had also put up a production company, D-Lynch Productions LLC, that offers recording, videography, and graphic design services.
