Alay sa Batang Rizal scholarship program

Metro Pacific Investments Foundation, Inc. (MPIF) and its partner program Gabay Guro jointly hosted an “Alay sa Batang Rizal” event, where they proudly presented the scholars to chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan of MPIF.

The “Alay sa Batang Rizal” program stands as a testament to MPIF’s and Gabay Guro’s dedication to investing in the potential of young scholars and offering them the opportunity to access quality education and unleash their full potential. Since its launch in February, the program commits to provide financial allowance to 50 scholars and to continue to support them as they enter college for the coming school year 2023-2024.

During the event, chairman Pangilinan shared a personal story of his Lolo Benito, a dedicated school teacher committed to shaping the minds of young learners. He recounted how his Lolo Benito laid the foundation for educational advocacy. Mr. Pangilinan shared his own educational journey and encouraged the scholars saying “Pinagpala kayo ng Diyos, alam niya kung ano ang pangarap niyo, and He will listen to every single voice.” He added that “being a scholar… is a badge of honor.” MVP ends his message by forging the scholars to “take the challenge and never give up on your dreams, for your sake, and for the sake of your families.”

The Gabay advocacies for a Sustainable Philippines encapsulate the contributions of the MVP group of companies toward the attainment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals — Livelihood, Youth and leadership, Environment, Community work, Health and sports, and Education. MVP believes that with proper guidance and support, anyone can have the power to change their lives and rise above any crisis or setback.

Japan signs exchange of notes for disaster contingency fund

On August 8, Ambassador KOSHIKAWA Kazuhiko signed the Exchange of Notes (E/N) with Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique A. Manalo to formalize a loan facility and a grant project under Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA): the Post Disaster Stand-by Loan Phase 3 (PDSL 3) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Satellite Data Communication System.

The Post Disaster Stand-by Loan Phase 3 (PDSL 3) is a 30-billion-yen loan that seeks to support swift recovery in the aftermath of natural and health-related disasters, providing a quick-disbursing budgetary support for the Philippines’ calamity response programs. Under highly concessional terms, the loan’s repayment period is set to 30 years after a grace period of 10 years, with a fixed interest rate of 0.01% per annum.

The Japanese government started this budgetary support in 2013, following the disastrous Typhoon Yolanda. In 2020, Japan extended this financial support to augment government coffers as the Philippines rolled out its recovery efforts from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Satellite Data Communication System is a 1.1-billion-yen grant aid seeking to procure a state-of-the-art Satellite Data Communication System for the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG). Once this project is completed, it is expected to improve Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) and maritime law enforcement capabilities of the PCG.

Navotas City health office launches intensified cervical cancer screening

The Navotas City health office, with the support of Jhpiego Philippines through its Scale Up Cervical Cancer Elimination through Secondary Prevention (SUCCESS) project and centralized laboratory model for HPV screening (CLAMS) project, in partnership with the DOH Metro Manila Center for Health Development, launched its intensified cervical cancer screening campaign on August 7, at the Navotas City Hall.

This intensified cervical cancer screening campaign aims to strengthen the city’s healthcare system and marks the introduction of HPV DNA testing as a secondary prevention strategy, which aims to contribute towards the city’s commitment to increase screening and early treatment coverage.

Cervical cancer screening is crucial for early detection, enabling healthcare professionals to identify abnormal changes in the cervix before they progress into cancer, improving treatment success and overall survival rates. It serves as a preventive health measure, empowering women to protect their well-being by identifying precancerous lesions or early-stage cancer and implementing interventions to prevent disease progression and aggressive treatments.

The event also featured esteemed representatives from the Navotas City Health Office, DOH, local government officials, and dedicated healthcare professionals trained through Jhpiego’s capacity building activities.

Brushing up on good oral habits

Glisterâ„¢, the popular dental care brand of entrepreneur-led health and wellness company Amway, makes a case for giving our teeth more attention, especially now that the Department of Health has revealed that at least 73 million Filipinos suffer from tooth decay.

General Dentistry & Orthodontics Dr. Anna May Carina points out that certain foods and drinks that we usually enjoy today like soda, ice cream, cakes, and other sweet cravings take a toll on our oral health.

The dental care expert points out that the solutions are something people already know about but tend to take for granted. She underlines that brushing our teeth twice a day is the standard as this will help destroy or remove harmful bacteria inside the mouth and prevent tartar buildup before it hardens into position.

To support all the dentist-recommended ways of keeping our smiles healthy and bright, Glister advocates an effective Total Oral Care System that’s designed to clean teeth, freshen breath, and keep gums healthy with its plant-based dental solutions infused with traceable Nutriliteâ„¢-grown peppermint: Glister Multi-Action toothpaste for gently and effectively removing plaque and preventing cavities, Glister Multi-Action dental floss, especially designed to remove plaque in between teeth while gently stimulating the gums, and Glister Multi-Action Concentrated Oral Rinse that can help kill gingivitis and bad breath-causing bacteria.
