THE Kapatiran ng mga Unyon at Samahang Manggagawa (Kapatiran) yesterday said it does not expect the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB)-National Capital Region (NCR) to grant their wage hike petition to serve as the government’s gift to workers for the forthcoming Labor Day celebration.
In a phone interview, Kapatiran President Rey Almendras said; “It would be difficult to hope… But, if it will be given, we will be thankful.”
He said “Kapatiran is prepared to rattle their senses by holding protest actions.”
He stressed that an increase in the salaries of workers is necessary considering the soaring prices of basic services and commodities.
“As long as the inflation rate is not zero, prices will continue to increase and the real value of wages are continuously diminished,” said Almendras.
Last December 5, Kapatiran filed a P100 wage hike petition before the RTWPB-NCR.
The NCR wage board last issued a wage order in June 2022 to raise the minimum wage rate in Metro Manila to P570.
