WHY the need for an election for a new and official volleyball national sports association?
This was posed by Philippine Superliga chairman Philip Ella “Popoy” Juico, who maintained the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc. is the duly recognized body for volleyball.
“We don’t know why the elections are being held because as far as I know, the LVPI is a member (of the FIVB) of good standing,” Juico said last Saturday on former PBA Commissioner Noli Eala’s Radyo5 92.3 News FM’s Power and Play program.
“So, I think. . . I don’t know, this is second-hand information, they’re questioning that,” he added.
The athletics chief is also convinced PSL president Dr. Ian Laurel has what it takes to lead the NSA.
“If the elections will be held, definitely Dr. Ian Laurel will run for president,” Juico said.
“He is the most prepared, he is an honest person, he has integrity, he has no hidden agenda, he has no personal interest. He is a former volleyball player and he has moved always for the union, for the unity of volleyball in the volleyball community,” Juico added.
On the persistent request of the FIVB, the Philippine Olympic Committee will supervise an election set either in the third or fourth week this month.
POC president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino said the local Olympic body will supervise the polls hands-on.
The LVPI of Joey Romasanta was recognized by the FIVB and has been forming the national volleyball teams.
