WITH the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases yet to green light varsity training and collegiate league seasons, the NCAA intends to do the next best thing in its 96th season while waiting.
Although they are unofficial sports, online chess and e-sports should hack it, according to a highly-reliable Malaya-Business Insight source, who said these events will likely be played as demo sports in the first week of March.
“Hindi kami makaplano ng format ng schedule unless magbigay ng go-signal ang IATF. So, at least itong mga gagawin naming events na online, at least you don’t need the approval of the IATF,” the source said.
“Mga demo sports, demo events iyon. Doon sila babagsak kasi hindi iyon official events kasi iyong official, kailangan face-to-face. So, those events won’t meet the criteria of the NCAA as official events.”
The Commission on Higher Education released the safety and health guidelines for the resumption of varsity training last October, but the collegiate leagues are still waiting for the nod of the government task force in charge of the country’s pandemic response.
