A KOREAN and Japanese wanted in their countries were apprehended by immigration agents in separate operations in Makati and Quezon City.
Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said the two were arrested by operatives of the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) last Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
First to fall was Hwang Seongbin, 34, who was arrested on Rockwell Drive in Barangay Poblacion, Makati City, while Japanese Sasaki Yohei, 36, was collared last Oct. 1 in Bahay Toro, Quezon City.
“Both aliens were arrested on the strength of mission orders issued at the request of the South Korean and Japanese governments which sought their deportation so they could be tried for the crimes they allegedly committed,” Viado said.
Hwang, the subject of an Interpol red notice and a warrant of arrest from the Eujeong district court in Korea, is wanted for his involvement in a stock investment scam allegedly perpetrated during his stint as president of a financial institution.
Viado said Hwang was accused of luring his victims to invest in the scam, causing them to incur combined losses of 100 million won or more than $75,000.
Yohei has an active warrant of arrest issued by the Omiya summary court in Saitama, Japan where he was charged for defrauding an elderly victim in a nursing home where he worked as a staff member.
Yohei allegedly enticed the victim to invest more than 3 million yen in a fake contract-related transaction.
Viado said Japanese authorities also claimed that Yohei is a member of a Cambodia-based telecom fraud syndicate engaged in kidnapping, illegal detention, extortion, and fraud.
The BI chief said the two will be deported after the BI Board of Commissioners issues the order for their summary deportation after which they will be blacklisted and banned from reentering the country.
They are detained at the BI warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending deportation proceedings.
