THE Information Technology – Business Process Outsourcing (IT-BPO) industry is in need of as much as 25,000 workers, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) announced yesterday.
In a televised public briefing, TESDA Deputy Director General Aniceto John Bertiz III said the industry has said they are experiencing a shortage in qualified workers.
“The IT-BPOs have a need or shortage of something like 15,000 to 25,000 call handlers,” said Bertiz.
Bertize said the TESDA has partnered with the IT-BPO industry in conducting skills training to interested individuals to address the shortage.
“We are looking at addressing the job-skills mismatch by coordinating not only with the local government unit but with the industry itself,” he said, adding that those who would undergo
TESDA training have a high probability of getting hired by IT-BPO firms.
“Those that have availed of TESDA’s learnership, supervised industry learning, or dual training system have 86 to 90 percent probability of getting jobs,” said Bertiz, adding the job opportunities also include possible overseas job offers. — Gerard Naval
