THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday called on residents of Carmona, Cavite to come out on Saturday, July 8, and cast their votes in the plebiscite for the conversion of their municipality into a component city.
In a phone interview, Comelec chairman George Garcia said it is imperative for each registered voter to make their preference known.
“Their voices, not ours, matter,” said Garcia, adding the poll body has already completed its preparations for the conduct of the plebiscite.
Comelec records show 58,691 registered voters from 14 barangays are set to cast their votes in the plebiscite.
Casting of votes in the 10 voting centers with 116 clustered precincts is set from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The voters are set to answer the question in the ballot if they are in favor or not of converting Carmona from a municipality to a city.
They shall answer “yes”/”oo” or “no”/”hindi” in the blank line after the question in the ballot.
The Comelec said the election paraphernalia and supplies are already set for deployment on early Saturday from its warehouse in Cabuyao, Laguna.
Under Republic Act No. 11938, the municipality of Carmona shall be converted into a component city to be known as the city of Carmona.
RA 11938 provides that Carmona City shall only acquire corporate existence upon the ratification by a majority of the votes cast by the qualified voters in a plebiscite.
