THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) is looking to resume voter registration nationwide by early next month in time for the May 2025 midterm polls.

In a phone interview, Comelec chairman George Garcia said the poll body is likely to set the voter registration period by early February.

“It could be from February to September (2024),” Garcia said, adding that the schedule of the voter registration period has yet to be finalized by the Commission en banc.

The last voter registration period in the country was held from December 12, 2022 to January 31, 2023.

But while the local voter registration period has yet to commence, the poll body reminded Filipinos abroad that they have less than 300 days left before the end of the overseas voter registration period ends.

In a social media post, the Comelec reminded Filipinos overseas that the deadline of the overseas voter registration is on September 30, 2024.

The Comelec has been encouraging individuals looking to register to vote, update address and other details, or reactivate their voter registration status.

It said the OFWs only need to bring their valid Philippine passport to the nearest Philippine Embassy or Consulate General.

The overseas voter registration period began last December 9, 2022 and shall run until September 30, 2024.
