WITH a month left before the deadline of the voter registration period for the May 2025 national and local polls, close to six million individuals have applied to become registered voters with the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Based on the latest data provided by the Comelec, there are now 5,831,291 applications for voter registration filed from February 12 to August 31.
Still having the most number of applicants is Calabarzon with 974,655; followed by the National Capital Region with 782,838; and Central Luzon with 662,246.
Having the lowest number of registrants, on the other hand, is the Cordillera Administrative Region with 81,841.
The current voter registration numbers are nearly double of the initial three million applicants projected by the poll body.
The voter registration period is set to end on September 30, 2024.
On the other hand, the Comelec yesterday reported that the number of deactivated voters has reached 5,376,630, as of July 15.
A large majority of the deactivated voters are those who failed to vote in two successive preceding elections with 5,371,376.
A total of 714,035 voter registration records were also deleted by the Comelec.
Foremost of the reasons for the cancellations are due to death (250,357) and transfer to another city or municipality (228,130).
