A GROUP of concerned citizens from Novaliches has filed vote-buying complaints against Quezon City fifth district congressional candidate Rose Nono Lin before the Justice Department.
The group, belonging to the Samahang Nagkakaisang Mamamayan ng Novaliches, said the strategy of Lin’s camp giving “ayuda” and scholarship to the residents of District 5 can be considered as vote-buying.
In their complaint, the group said that Lin admitted in her Facebook post last April 2 that her camp has been giving P300 since last year to tricycle drivers and kids of voters as “financial assistance.”
Also included in the charge sheet are nine persons said to be helping Lin by allowing their houses to be the venue of the alleged vote-buying.
Comelec Commission George Garcia had earlier said that the poll body will issue a subpoena against the accused so an investigation can be started. Garcia said this should serve as a warning to other candidates employing the same tactics.
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has reminded all field and regional officers of the National Bureau of Investigation to monitor all meetings called by candidates to ensure there will be no vote-buying.
It can be recalled that a senior citizen in the fifth district of QC while waiting for “ayuda” in front of the headquarters of Lin.
Records show that Lin is the wife of Lin Weixiong, the alleged financial manager of the controversial Pharmally involved in an anomalous contract with the government to buy COVID supplies.
Lin is an independent candidate.
