THE provincial government of Misamis Occidental and the local government unit of Ozamiz City have jointly distributed relief goods to an estimated 180 families who survived the recent flood and fire incidents in the city.
Ozamiz City Mayor Henry “Indy”  Oaminal Jr. paid a visit to the 180 families from Barangays Maningcol, Lam-an and Bacolod.
There are 152 households displaced by a flash flood in Brgy. Maningcol, while 22 families in Brgy. Lam-an, and six in Bacolod were rendered homeless by a fire that burned their homes.
Aid was distributed among the evacuated families, which included relief packs and up to P25,000 in financial assistance.
During the aid distribution, the mayor assured the families that the LGU will continue to extend its support, along with the Misamis Occidental government, until they have recovered from the separate tragedies.
“Our community is like a family, and in times of hardship, we must stand together,” said Oaminal Jr.
He also acknowledged the “initiative of the city government, provincial government, and the 2nd District office of [Rep.] Ando Oaminal [that] showcases our unity and our determination to assist those in need.”
Misamis Occidental Gov. Henry Oaminal Sr., in a separate statement, urged local government units (LGUs) to continue their cooperation with other public offices for the efficient delivery of programs to Misamisnons.
“Our services will reach Misamisnons faster if we continue to be united in our objectives, our governance, and our priorities,” the governor said.
Rep. Oaminal, for his part, hailed the “resilient heart and spirit of our kababayans” as he assured them that they “will continue to help them get back on their feet.”
With the 5M development thrust (Misamisnons Live Peaceful, Prosperous and Happy lives) of the provincial government, Oaminal Sr. called for the quick mobilization of disaster response teams as well as other programs to address the recovery of victims of calamities.
