TEN provinces in the country are experiencing “very high” positivity rates for coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the independent OCTA Research yesterday said, adding that infections in the National Capital Region (NCR) also continue to climb.
In a social media post, OCTA fellow Guido David said the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, and Isabela have “very high positivity rates of more than 20 percent.”
Leading the list is Aklan, which has recorded 32.6 percent; followed by Capiz with 31.9 percent, Nueva Ecija with 30.5 percent, Isabela with 27.8 percent, and Pampanga with 26.1 percent.
The other five provinces are Laguna (26%), Cavite (24.5%), Tarlac (24%), Rizal (22.8%), and Antique (22.2%).
A notch below the 10 areas is Metro Manila, which is at “high” risk classification with a 14 percent positivity rate. Eight other provinces are at high-risk classification, which are Cagayan (16.4%), Iloilo (15.9%), Batangas (15.2%), La Union (14.5%) Benguet (14.4%), Pangasinan (12.2%), Bataan (12.2%), and Bulacan (11.7%).
Positivity rate is defined as the percentage of tests reported that yield positive COVID-19 results.
The Department of Health has said that the recent increase in COVID cases in the country are due to the presence of the different Omicron subvariant mutations, relaxed adherence to public health protocols and less restrictive mobility rules.
